WESD Celebrates American Education Week with School Letter Grade Highlights

This week was American Education Week, which served as an opportunity to celebrate public education and to honor all the teachers, administrators, support staff, students, families and communities who make public education a success. In celebration of American Education Week, the WESD was proud to share highlights about each of our nine schools that received an "A" letter grade from the Arizona Department of Education and their progress to this great achievement. Each of these schools were also celebrated by the Governing Board and Administrative Leadership team at the November 9th Board meeting and were awarded with special banners to display at their campuses.

Enjoy these highlights of our nine “A” schools:

Desert View Elementary School is a first-time “A” school that increased their score in every A-F component from 2022. They also increased their overall score by 19.70 points and jumped from a ‘C’ in 2022 to an ‘A’ in 2023.

Royal Palm Middle School is a first-time “A” school that increased their score in every A-F component from 2022. Increasing their overall score by 7.69 points, the school also maxed out their math growth points and nearly the ELA (24.88 out of 25 points). Additionally, they are the first middle school in the WESD to receive an “A” letter grade.

Sweetwater School is a first-time “A” school that increased their score in nearly all A-F components from 2022. They increased their overall score by 9.06 points with a high score of 91.76 out of 100 points, and even maxed out growth points in 2022 and 2023.

John Jacobs Elementary School and Orangewood School are both first-time “A” schools. They are two out of six schools that maxed out on growth points.

Abraham Lincoln Traditional School is the longest running A-rated school having achieved the honor for the last nine years consecutively. Acacia Elementary School follows second as they have been an “A” school for eight of the last nine years.

Sunburst Elementary School and Moon Mountain Elementary School have both maintained their “A” designation for the past two years in a row.

Congratulations to all of our “A” schools on their incredible achievements!

WESD Honors November 2023 SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff

Congratulations to the outstanding November 2023 SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff recipients from Desert View Elementary School, Mountain View School and Sunnyslope School! The SUPER Kids received a certificate and a free pizza from Peter Piper Pizza while the SUPER Staff earned a certificate and a $10 Amazon gift card courtesy of Veregy.

New this month, we presented three SUPER Staff awards to individuals from the WESD Administrative Center. They were also surprised in front of their colleagues and received a $10 Starbucks gift card.
