For this project I wanted to convey a subtle message in my art. Anyone with dyslexia understands the movement of the words when you open a book. That feeling of anxiety passes through you when you look at those words. So, I took this photo and then altered the words in the book to show that feeling and message. The photo has an interesting light contrast and a good visual direction. I hope people see that and can feel the hidden message that was put in my project.
The piece was very fun to create and turned out good. I had taken news paper and dipped it in water and then placed it on my subject’s face. I only wanted half of her face covered to show the still very human side of her. The light balance on the “words define you” really adds to the piece. IT really spotlights the message. The cold colors of the newspaper and warm color of the skin is very contrasting and adds to the visual.
This piece has a very calming water look to it. Clam waters can always be deceiving. I placed news paper into a glass of water and made a tryptic with drops of water falling. And while it may look calm the idea was to visuals I sense of drowning. Reading and words can be very overwhelming for a dyslexic, and I associated it with drowning and falling behind, and that’s what I wanted to convey. I like the light and colors in the tryptic and the effect the water drops have making waves and visuals disrupting the calm water.
For this project I wanted to have a very simple message. The simplicity of it is what really makes this piece. The read being upside down is the obvious message through dyslexia, but next to that is the [AS]. Which is all about censorship showing the society of trouble but not really supporting those trouble. And the restrictiveness society has especially when it comes to education. I hope my audience will see the deeper message buried in the simple photo.
In this project I wanted to have a very heavy emotion to it. Dyslexia is a hard battle, and a large percentage of people are affected by it. Every 3/5 people are dyslexic and not being able to read outs you at a seriously hard level of life. It can put you in poverty and it’s a disability that many just must live with rather than get help through tutoring and understand it. It’s also not commonly taught in education to fail these kids in life and the letters really have a big weight of emotion for me in this project. The lighting really shows the emotion and the struggle the is being conveyed. I hope my audience can see all that.
This piece was very fun to make. I go to play with water reflection and refraction. I filled up a vase with water and placed it over my laptop that was showing a photo, and the water distorted the image. As the vase ran up the sides it continued to bend and distort the words. I like the dark feeling and mood this piece has. It conveys a great message and is very visually pleasing to look at. I hope my audience sees that.
