I pray that as you read the following stories, you are encouraged by how God is moving through students like these and that He allows Winter Conference to be a vessel for life change!
Allyssa Miller
MEET YUMI
Yumi is an exchange student from Japan and I met her this past fall. She came to the U.S. for school in 2020 but went through a significant period of feeling alone and quite honestly hopeless. But a friend of hers was involved in Cru on their campus and invited her to come to their weekly meeting. She told me, “Everyone there was super nice and their open hearts made me wonder what is the thing that fulfills their hearts and I was really curious how to live with faith to make lives fruitful. But I had so many doubts and questions.
After getting to know people through Cru and bible study weekly, I had been realizing more clearly how many times God was showing up in my life and saving me.
One day at the Bible study, I shared everything that I was going through and I was praying with tears in my eyes. At that moment, I really felt God can help me go through this time and my appreciation to God got bigger and deeper and that's how I became a Christian.
Because of God, I no longer feel alone."
MEET MATTHEW
Going into college, Matthew felt uncertain spiritually. While he had grown up going to church, he never felt connected to any type of faith community.
So he joined Cru on his campus and found himself at Winter Conference.
And it was at the Day of Outreach where he finally started to see some pieces come together. as he joined his friends and watched them share their faith with others, he started to understand the Gospel for himself. At the end of Winter Conference, he remembers, we were supposed to write what we were going to surrender to God. At that point I finally committed my life to Jesus.”
The Lord was kind to use Winter Conference to help Matthew grow in his faith through community and place his faith in Jesus for the first time.
MEET RJ & ETHAN
Ethan and RJ were best friends growing up. Ethan grew up in a Christian home and had always been praying for RJ to come to know Jesus. After attending Winter Conference, Ethan went out and shared his faith for the first time during the Day of Outreach. Little did he know, God was preparing him to share his faith with RJ when he returned. One night, RJ came to Ethan with a bunch of questions about faith and by the end of the night, he had made a decision to follow Jesus.
The summer after RJ accepted Christ, the two of them went on a summer mission trip overseas where they grew in their walk with God. Since then, they’ve been significantly involved in their Cru movement on campus and this year, they’ve recruited at least 5 friends to go on another summer mission with them!
Praise God for stories like these! These stories are just a glimpse of how God is changing lives through events like Winter Conference. The beautiful thing is - the impact goes beyond a four day conference and has the opportunity to change the trajectory of students' lives and those around them. This past Winter Conference season, we hosted 12 events, saw over 6,800 students attend, and celebrated as 368 people who either attended a Winter Conference or heard the gospel during outreaches indicated decisions for Christ!
