Google Launches FirstPath

A first-of-its-kind search tool designed for first-generation and low-income students.

What FirstPath Does

FirstPath helps students:

  • Filter schools by affordability, housing, technology access, transportation, and textbooks.
  • Use a mobile-first, low-data platform that works anywhere.
  • Explore Ivy League, HBCUs, community colleges, and research universities: through the lens of equity and opportunity.

Why It Matters

  • 50%+ of first-generation college students in the U.S. identify as Hispanic/Latino, Black, or other underrepresented groups.
  • Students face challenges like financial anxiety, limited parental guidance, and unreliable internet.
  • FirstPath closes these gaps by delivering accessible information and peer stories that inspire resilience and upward mobility.

Real Student Journeys

“FirstPath isn’t just a search: it’s a story of self-discovery and possibility.”

The campaign’s theme, One Search. Infinite Futures, highlights signature stories from first-generation students who overcame barriers and achieved their educational goals.
