Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!
This week we had a visit from the Dogs Trust who worked with children from Year 1 through to Year 6, teaching children how to look after a dog and how to stay safe in the community around a dog. The children really enjoyed the session and learnt lots about keeping safe! A big thank you to the Dogs Trust for coming in and working with our children. For the last few weeks we have also had some special outreach visitors into assembly each Wednesday teaching the children about different values and behaviours. So far the children have explored themes such as science, forgiveness and how to manage feelings of jealousy.
Our PTA will be hosting a coffee morning next Thursday 9th May at 8:15am in our school hall. All welcome, but children must be supervised by an adult. We would be grateful for any cake/bun donations. Could any donations be brought to the office by Wednesday 8th please. Please spread the word! We would love to see lots of you there.
We have an exciting vacancy for a catering assistant in our school kitchen, working 10 hours per week. Please see our school website for more information and an application pack if you are interested or ask Miss Marsh for more information. Please spread the word with anyone you know might be interested.
Our Year 6 children are invited to an end of year camping trip experience on school grounds on Friday 28th June from 4pm (with pick up the next day after breakfast!) Thanks to your amazing fundraising efforts we are able to offer this experience to our children for free. It is a great opportunity for the children to spend some quality time together making memories with their friends and staff before they move on to their next adventure at secondary school.
You may have seen on the news this week a story about a large rise in something called ‘Sextortion’. Schools have been informed that there has been a large increase in the targeting of children online to send inappropriate images and videos to strangers posing as children. The children are then contacted and threatened to be exposed if they do not meet the criminals’ demands. Unfortunately these gangs are targeting children of all ages. Please be aware of and monitor your child’s communications online to help keep them safe. At school we will continue to educate children in an age appropriate way about how to keep safe online.
Mental Health Awareness Week is Monday 13th-Friday 17th May. On Monday, 13th May, children will be carrying out some work in school focusing on the importance of maintaining a good mental health and also joining in a virtual assembly on mental health in the afternoon.
Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to be good attendance.
