Hey Dustdevils,

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break and had a chance to relax and recharge. Whether you traveled, spent time with friends and family, got caught up on work/assignments, or enjoyed some well-deserved rest, I hope you have returned feeling refreshed and ready for the rest of the semester.

This week, we are kicking things off by celebrating the reopening of our much-loved Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium this Wednesday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. at the LBV Planetarium. The reimagined space now boasts the latest technology, offering an immersive experience designed to spark curiosity and ignite discovery. Learn more at http://go.tamiu.edu/planetarium. Discover TAMIU 2026 is happening this Saturday, March 21 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Our annual celebration features 100+ family-friendly activities for attendees of all ages. We will offer arts and crafts tables, games, live science demonstrations, music and dance performances, and more. We encourage you to bring your friends, family and loved ones to campus Saturday, March 21 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Explore activities at https://www.tamiu.edu/discovertamiu/ Also on the horizon is The Big Event, TAMIU’s annual community service day focusing on the beautification of community spaces. This year, we are once again joined by students, faculty, and staff members from Laredo College, while also counting on support from the City of Laredo, the South Texas Food Bank, and other student-centered and local community organizations from across the city. TAMIU, Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas Council Sign MOU, Establish Collaborative Partnership

A new partnership between TAMIU and the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas Council is opening the door for young leaders to explore higher education and discover new possibilities thanks to a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding exploring collaborative opportunities to encourage proactive learning experiences.

TAMIU to Celebrate Reopening of the LBV Planetarium Wednesday, March 18

Immerse yourself in an experience made for discovery. Join us on Wednesday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. as we celebrate the reopening of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium, now reimagined with powerful new technology and immersive experiences designed to spark curiosity.

ARSSB Seminar Happening Friday, March 20

Dr. Leonel Prieto, associate professor and PhD program director, will present research this Friday, March 20. The research titled, “Sustainability of the City of Laredo: Plausible System Scenarios”  is part of the A.R. Sanchez, Jr., School of Business Friday Seminars. The presentation will take place at the Western Hemispheric Trade Center, from room 224 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

TAMIU ARDA Grant to Host Lecture Friday, March 20

The TAMIU community is invited to attend a special plenary lecture and seminars hosted by the Academic Recovery & Data Analysis (ARDA) Grant featuring Dr. Keisha Bahr, Assistant Professor of Marine Biology at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. Dr. Bahr will present “How the Most Important Word in the English Language Has Helped in the Preservation of Coral Reef Ecosystems,” highlighting how the ABT framework can strengthen scientific communication and help researchers clearly share complex ideas with broader audiences.

Discover TAMIU Happening this Saturday, March 21

TAMIU invites the community to its annual Discover TAMIU open house on Saturday, March 21, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the University campus. Now in its 12th year, this free, family-friendly event transforms the campus into a vibrant showcase of learning, creativity and Dustdevil spirit. Prospective students, parents, and community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and explore everything TAMIU has to offer. Admission is free and open to the public. 

TAMIU Rec Sports to Host Strength Competition March 24 - 26

Join us for the Rec Sports Strength Competition. Compete in three days of raw power and personal records. This competition is designed for lifters of all levels to step onto the platform and test their limits in the three ultimate measures of strength: squat, bench press, and deadlift! This competition will evaluate your strength by measuring your one-rep max in each of the three core lifts. Your best successful attempt in each event will count toward your final score. Winners will win an event specific pump cover.

TAMIU, LC Team Up for The Big Event, Saturday, March 28

The Big Event, TAMIU’s annual community service day focusing on the beautification of community spaces is happening Saturday, March 28. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and make an impact in your community, Dustdevils.
