My Culture Jaycee Poe

Both of my parents were born here in the United States.
My parents grew up in Indiana and it is also where I was born and raised. I have lived in Indianapolis, Indiana for my whole life now, which is 22 years. I love it here, but I also can't wait to get out and travel the world.

With me being born in Indiana, I am a Hoosier and a lot of Hoosier's are sports fans. I was born into a sports family and even though I love playing sports, such as basketball and softball, I have never been into watching them like a lot of people from Indiana like to do.

IU Hoosiers usually like to follow how Indiana is doing in sports, especially basketball and football.

I work a part-time job right now in retail at Rally House because I pay for college out of pocket and even though I am a full-time student I wouldn’t be able to afford school if I didn’t work. I try to pick up as many hours as I can because I want to make sure when I am not busy with school I am making money to pay for it. I also like to do things outside of school and work and it's nice to be able to afford to be able to do things. I have always worked very hard for my money and I believe it is okay to treat yourself sometimes too.

I am my parents first born daughter and child. Below I have added pictures of my family to show who we are and how close our family is. Family means a lot to me and I would do anything for anyone of these people. I was born to my mother, Lisa and my father, Tony and a couple years later they had my little brother AJ. My family has always been close, growing up we did everything together, such as cookouts, birthday parties, sports, and celebrating holidays. My family and even most of my extended family all get together for Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas because we all get to spend time together enjoying these holidays. Even today my family is still pretty close, even though we do not see each everyday we still get together for game nights, dinners, and pool days. I will always love my family and they will always be a huge part of who I am today and how my future will be.

I was raised to protect my family and be there for them no matter what the case is.

With me being my parents first born daughter I am also an older sister to my brother. Even though we didn't get along as kids, my brother and I have always been close. We did everything together growing up and we still make time for each other when we can. My brother and I are both grown and do our own things, but he knows if he ever needs me for anything I am just a phone call away and would be there for him with whatever he needed.

I am a full-time student at IU Indianapolis, and even though most of my classes are online, this takes most of my time because it is my main focus. I prioritize school by putting my studies before anything else I do. I have found a routine that works well for me when it comes to focusing on my studies and that is getting organized, getting ahead in my assignments, and not falling behind in any of my classes.

School is very important to me because it will teach me what I need to know for my future career and it if I continue to do well, it will get me to that future career as an occupational therapist.
