Message from the Leadership Team
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope this message finds you well.
Firstly, big congratulations to the first ‘batch’ of Year 7 students, nominated for Hot Choc and treats with me by their tutors, for taking the big step of starting Secondary school in their strides! It was great to spend time with Jack, Ben, Archie, Perla and Laia this morning, and to hear them commenting on their new friends, on not getting lost as much as they had feared and about the lessons they are enjoying, including History, PE and Science – the Bunsen burners got a mention!
I would like to give a big shout out to all Year 7s and their families on the back of this – it takes real commitment to make it work in a new school. I am loving seeing them around each day, giving it their all.
We have also thoroughly enjoyed welcoming Year 6 families to our Open Mornings this week. It has been a pleasure to engage with prospective students and their families, allowing them to explore the school, as we are, in the usual run of things. Your children do an excellent job, whether as tour guides or just by being themselves, in lessons, around the school, helping the Year 6s to feel less worried by the thought of older students.
As a reminder, please note that we will have an early closure on Thursday, 25th September, at 12:20pm in readiness for our Open Evening. The canteen will be closed at lunchtime; however, all students in receipt of free school meals will be provided with food but a reminder that this must be purchased at break. Thank you so much to the students who are volunteering to assist at the event. Families of these students have been contacted via Arbor and must confirm their permission for their child to attend.
Additionally, if your child requires supervision on-site beyond 12:20pm on the early closure day, please do not hesitate to email Eddie Rollett, Assistant Headteacher at erollett@noadswood.hants.sch.uk, and we will make the necessary arrangements.
The school is then closed on the following day, 26th September, to students for an Inset Day, during which our staff will engage in professional development and training.
Finally, thanks so much to Miss Penny and to the incredible team at Rock the Pier in Hythe for the warm welcome they gave members of my, This is Me Choir, last Saturday morning; it was the first time the group had sung outdoors together, and I was very proud of them. To be hosted by Noadswood Alumni, Byron, made it particularly special. If you would like to hear us in action, jump on our social media platforms.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Should you have any queries, worries or require further information, please feel free to contact us. You can find details at our Contact page on our Website or do email info@noadswood.hants.sch.uk and we can point you in the right direction.
Best wishes,
Kathryn Marshall and the Noadswood Leadership Team
Careers
This week, we held our annual Careers Fair for students in Years 9-11 and their parents and carers. It was brilliant to see so many students there, exploring potential future education and career pathways and asking questions to inform their all so important decisions. We would also like to say thank you to all the colleges, employers and organisations who came in to share their expertise and advice with our students.
Year 11
Applications are now open for all local colleges. Students may ask their tutor if they wish to receive a prospectus for a particular college. College open events are also published on their websites, and we have included them in the Year 11 calendar. Please note that some open events require you to register first. Attending these open events provides students with the chance to see the college campuses and to speak to college staff and students about the courses and extracurricular opportunities that are on offer for them.
Next week, students will be hearing from the local colleges in their assemblies that will be taking place throughout the week.
If students have any questions or worries about applying to college, we advise them to reach out for support. They can speak to their Tutors, Year Leaders or to our Careers Advisor, Gordon Lewis and Careers Lead, Miss Clews, if they would like any support.
Prepare to Perform Programme:
To support our Year 11s further and develop their learning beyond the classroom we are launching the Prepare to Perform Programme (P2P) the week commencing 29th September. The programme will include after-school sessions run by subject staff to give students additional support, guidance and focus to help them prepare for their upcoming examinations. Watch out for a letter coming home with more details and the full calendar of after-school sessions will be attached.
PLRs:
To provide our students with the opportunity to reflect on their Year 10 progress and to help them move forward into Year 11, we are inviting them to attend a Personal Learning Review (PLR) with their tutor.
Between Monday 29th September and Friday 10th October students will be given a 10-minute appointment with their tutor. These appointments will take place during the morning at either 08:35-08:45 or 08:45-08:55. The tutor will inform each student of their date and time slot. A letter will be sent to all Year 11 parents next week with more details.
Year 10
Parents and carers of students in Year 10 are invited to attend the work experience information evening. This will take place in the school hall on Thursday 9th October at 5.30pm-6.30pm. At this event, we will share information on how students can find their work experience placements alongside the forms that will need to be completed. We will also share information about the cover letter and CV students will be writing in preparation for their mock interview in the Spring term.
