June Member Spotlight
Megan Colf
Megan L. Colf, CMP, is a seasoned event professional with 15+ years of experience leading high-impact events across the hospitality, corporate, and nonprofit sectors. As Senior Director of Events at the Pittsburgh Technology Council, she specializes in large-scale event strategy, production, and brand growth. A Certified Meeting Professional, Megan is recognized for her leadership, client-focused approach, collaborative spirit, and ability to deliver exceptional results.
đWhat first inspired you to pursue a career in meetings and events?
I landed in this industry purely by chance while working through college, but I stayed because I developed a genuine passion for hospitality and creating experiences. The longer I stayed, the more I realized how much I loved the energy and impact of well-designed and produced experience.
đWhat advice would you give to someone just entering this profession?
Find the people who light a fire under you, those who challenge, inspire, and push you to level up. Seek out mentors whoâve been where you want to go, and donât be afraid to ask questions or take up space in the room. Stay curious, stay hungry, and stay open. In this industry, your network isnât just a support system. It is your launchpad.
đ How do you stay current with changes and innovations in event planning?
This industry is always evolving, and itâs essential to evolve with it. I stay current by investing in continued education, attending industry showcases, and staying connected with fellow professionals who are pushing boundaries. Lastly, NETWORK. Know your hospitality community. That is how you bring the best to your clients and shareholders.
đťWhatâs one myth about event planning youâd like to bust?
One myth specifically that stands out is that hiring an event professional is an unnecessary luxury. The âI can do it myselfâ mindset often limits an eventâs potential. A skilled event professional brings far more than logistics. They bring vision, strategy, and a deep network of trusted resources. Their expertise transforms events from simply organized to truly unforgettable.
đŻââď¸What do you love most about being a member of MPI?
Itâs the energy of being surrounded by people who get it, who understand both the intensity and the magic of this industry. MPI is more than a network; itâs a community where ideas are exchanged freely, support is constant, and every success is celebrated together. Itâs where collaboration fuels growth and is centered by passion.
