At Chemonics, we are committed to tackling the globe’s toughest challenges to ensure people everywhere can live healthier, more productive, and more independent lives. To remain true to that commitment, it is essential that we do our part. We are taking bold strides to measure and reduce the environmental impacts and climate risks associated with our corporate and client activities worldwide and deliver results to our clients that are focused on environmental protection, water security, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem health.
Our Core Commitments
Our commitment to environmental sustainability is demonstrated through five core commitments. Each commitment aligns with Chemonics' mission and values, which we implement in partnership with our global network of specialists, local government and civil society stakeholders, international partners, and our clients.
Our Approach to Managing Environmental and Climate Issues
Our approach has three elements:
Working with our Partners and Subcontractors
Translating environmental and climate commitments into successful outcomes depends on the joint efforts of Chemonics’ global workforce, our clients, and community partners around the world. Chemonics reviews partner environmental policies to ensure they align with our policy and relevant client and host-government expectations and legislation. Environmental policies, capacity, and demonstrated experience contributing to sustainable development are a prerequisite for Chemonics to consider partnership with a specific organization.
Reporting on our Progress
Chemonics is committed to taking conscious, concrete actions to protect the natural environment and to measure and report the results of our efforts. In 2019, we completed the first comprehensive environmental baseline assessment of our global operations. We use this information to create robust plans and measurable targets for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and solid waste generation from our operations and our client activities. We are preparing annual reports summarizing our environmental performance, reporting our progress on reducing our environmental footprint and delivering on client activities focused on biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, natural resource management, sustainable land use, and clean energy development.
raising the bar
At our U.S. headquarters in Washington, D.C., Chemonics took steps to ensure that the office building design reflected our commitment to building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable world. The building is LEED certified and integrates best practices around water stewardship, solid waste reduction, and energy efficiency.
