Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 23rd May 2025

Have a lovely half term break

As next week is the half term break, we wanted to wish you all a safe and happy week. It looks like the long-expected rain is finally making an appearance, but hopefully that will not dampen spirits too much and you all have lots of fun. Gardens and wildlife will be a bit happier at least!

We look forward to seeing all of the children back in school on Monday 2nd June.

Sports Days

Thank you to everyone who was able to come along to support the children at our sports day events this week. We were delighted that the good weather held all week, enabling them all to go ahead as planned. The children all did a brilliant job, trying their hardest at all the events and most importantly of all, giving lots of enthusiastic support and encouragement to their fellow pupils.

We would also like to say a big thank you to the Friends of Parkside PTA for their help and providing the refreshments.

Year 6 SATs

Last week our Year 6 pupils undertook their end of key stage 2 assessments (SATs). We are very proud of all of the children for their positive attitude throughout the week. Thank you to all of the parents and carers for their support, and to all of the staff involved.

Half term design competition

We would like children to come up with a design that could be painted onto our reading sheds. A winning design will be picked to actually be painted on each shed (East & West).

The winners will also receive a £10 token each. All year groups can enter a design for either shed. Please return your designs to school by Wednesday 4th June. Please click the button below to print an entry form, or use a blank page of A4 but make sure you add your name and class.

Rounders Round Up

We are very proud of our Year 6 pupils who came second in the recent tournament. They were a credit to the school.

My Personal Best

Lovely to see another 'My Personal Best' certificate given out this week. This was awarded for "always taking responsibility for his actions".

Star Signing

We were very impressed to hear about Tommy in Year 3 officially signing his contract for next season U9’s with Lincoln City FC. His mum explained how he has spent the last 14 months attending training and developing at Lincoln, and all his hard has paid off! In March 2025 he was offered a very well-deserved contract for Lincoln City FC. Well done Tommy, that is amazing! We look forward to hearing more about your progress.

Safety Notice: Parking

Please can we remind all parents and carers not to park on the zigzag lines outside school. Doing so means traffic cannot see the children crossing which puts them in danger. Please park responsibly and help to safeguard everyone in our community. Thank you.

Child Safety Week

Week commencing 2nd June is Child Safety Week 2025. It is a time to actively engage in conversations, educational activities, and practical steps to enhance child safety and protect the well-being of our youngest members of society.

We will be covering the below topics within school throughout the week as well as sharing information and advice with parents.

Hedgehog Rescue

Two weeks ago, Gabriela in Year 2 spotted a hedgehog not moving on the grass in the East playground. It is very unusual to see hedgehogs out during the day and a sign that something is wrong. We managed to get help from a local rescue service, Hedgehogs at Holme Rescue. He was very poorly but the latest update this week let us know that he is doing well. There is still a long way to go but we are all keeping our fingers crossed.

The rescue centre said that the children could name him as they had done a fantastic job to spot a hedgehog in trouble, and that if he had been left any longer the outcome would have been much worse. So well done everyone for giving Prickle a fighting chance! If you would like to make a donation to the rescue centre to help with Prickle's care, you can do so via PayPal www.PayPal.me/hedgehogsatholme or buy care items (food, milk etc) from their Amazon wishlist here.

On Friday 9th May, his first day at the rescue centre

Summer Fair

Just a reminder about that The Friends of Parkside PTA are putting on the Summer Fair on Tuesday 8th July, from 3.30-5.30pm. The fair will be free to enter with lots of stalls, games and food outlets. A big thank you to the PTA for all of their hard work on this so far, we really appreciate it. It is sure to be great fun for all the family, as well as raising funds for the school.

Our Community Champion pupils will be running some stalls, including a tombola. They would be very grateful for any donations of prizes. If you have any items you would be willing to donate, please bring to the school office. Thank you for your support.

The PTA would still appreciate more volunteers to help with the event. If you can assist in any way, please get in touch. You can connect with them via the Facebook group here.

Summer Discos

The Friends of Parkside PTA are also organising Summer Discos for the children on Thursday 26th June from 3:30-4:30pm. Years 3 to 6 will be in the West Hall and Reception, Year 1 and 2 in the East Hall.

Tickets are £3, which includes juice, crisps and an ice lolly. Please purchase tickets on ParentPay by Thursday 19th June.

Incredible Home Learning!

The Year 4 children have produced some amazing projects at home for their Roman topic. Thank you to parents and carers for supporting the children in their efforts. In 'Together Time' they used their shields to get into different Roman Army battle formations!

Can you help?

We really need extra help in school so we can do more for the children. We are looking for volunteers to help in class, or perhaps you have an interesting job you could talk about in an assembly to inspire the children? If you think you could help in school in any way, then please do get in touch via the office. Thank you!

Cupcake creations

To end the week, they used their weighing and measuring skills to make the cupcakes from the recipe!

Vacancies

We are looking for midday assistants to join our lunchtime team. Please apply online on the East Riding website https://www.eastridingcouncil.jobs/ or contact the office if you have any questions.

Spotlight on Attendance 🔦

See below for attendance data for the last two weeks. The overall school attendance was very low at 92.89% in the week beginning Monday 5th May. A large portion of this was due to term time holidays. Please remember that holidays during term time cannot be authorised.

Please also be aware that a period of five unauthorised days out of school will incur a penalty notice. Please take note of the changes to penalty notices and our updated attendance policy. This information is also available on the Absence & Attendance page on our website.

Absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.

The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing - Help available from school

If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. If you have any question or worries about your child’s behaviour or require any additional family support then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Daine, our Behaviour & Family Support Worker. Both members of staff are also available for children to talk to should they have any worries.

If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).
