Learning Academy Worldwide's Vocational Training in Agriculture Programme ignites Young People's Success
15 March 2025
In the heart of South Africa's Northern Cape, where the landscape stretches vast and opportunity often feels scarce, a group of young individuals from the small town of Concordia have achieved something extraordinary. They call themselves Concordia Care, and against seemingly insurmountable odds, they've won the Seed4Africa national social hackathon, held in George, Southern Cape, SOUTH AFRICA, earning them a coveted spot at the International Hackathon in Spello, Italy which will take place from 1-8 July 2025.
I marvel at the incredible dedication of these young people and our teachers - after all these years, we are seeing some truly meaningful progress. /Learning academy worldwide founder: Theophilus van Rensburg Lindzter
Concordia Care's triumph at the hackathon, competing against three other national teams from Concordia and George in the Southern Cape, was a masterclass in comprehensive project presentation, perfectly aligning with the mandate. Their idea, captured in their slogan, Nutritious, Balanced Meals for All, suggests that access to nutritional food demands a community-based approach, effectively taking their learning experiences within Agriculture studies to a whole new level.
They delivered a cohesive package: a striking project logo that embodied their mission, a compelling promotional video that captured the heart of their community's needs, and a meticulously designed project landing page that served as a user-friendly hub for their digital platform. Beyond the tangible deliverables, their presentation shone with originality and creativity, demonstrating a deep understanding of their community's challenges and a clear vision for sustainable impact. Their technical execution was flawless, showcasing a fully functional platform, and their articulate responses to judges' questions regarding sustainability and feasibility solidified their position as deserving winners.
Their platform, as showcased on their website, features the powerful elements of:
* A localized job board: Addressing the critical issue of unemployment, connecting local youth with available opportunities.
* Educational resources: Providing access to online learning materials and information about bursaries and scholarships.
* Community forum: Fostering communication and collaboration, allowing young people to share ideas and support each other.
* Information regarding mental health and support: Recognizing the stress caused by the social economic issues in the community.
* Information about upcoming local events: Creating a sense of community engagement.
The Power of a Perfect Pitch
The team's success wasn't simply about technical skills. It was their deep understanding of the challenges faced by their community, their unwavering commitment to social impact, and their ability to articulate their vision that resonated with the judges.
Concordia Care’'s victory is particularly remarkable considering the challenges they faced. Fragmented internet access didn't deter them. They worked tirelessly, learning new skills and collaborating effectively, with dedication acquiring knowledge and skills in digital story-telling, illustrative design and web-design during a full academic term, since September 2024.
Now, as they prepare for the International Hackathon in Spello, Concordia Care is filled with excitement and a sense of responsibility. They understand that they're not just representing themselves, but their entire community and their country.
A Journey to Italy
Now, they're preparing for the International Hackathon in Spello, a dream they never thought possible. They're excited to learn from other young innovators from around the world and to impact them all the same.
Concordia Care's story is a powerful reminder that innovation and social impact can emerge from even the most unexpected places. Their journey from the dusty roads of Concordia to the international stage is a testament to the power of youth, determination, and the transformative potential of technology. They are not just representing Concordia; they're representing the resilience and ingenuity of South Africa's youth.
