Matt and April Hiller Making Jesus known on campuses in Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa with Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ)

I (Matt) began sharing my faith with baseball players at the University of Michigan during my senior year. As some believed in Christ and experienced life change, a fire lit inside me for a life of ministry to college students. That was 37 years ago.

I (April) learned how to talk about Jesus, study the Bible and lead others in deepening their faith through Cru at Marshall University.

I wanted to take that knowledge to the world, to those with less access and resources. That was 32 years ago.

Together, we have served on local campuses in the U.S., at the national leadership level in Mexico, and in global missions and mobilization efforts, while raising our four children.

Matt now serves as the International Mission Director for Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. He oversees all of Cru's U.S. Campus Ministry sending to these regions.

This includes

  • working with country directors to establish new partnerships and oversee current ones
  • ensuring the training, sending and coaching of healthy U.S. teams -- both short and long term
  • responding to crises
  • shaping all of our U.S. efforts in these locations.

April writes mobilization campaigns for the U.S. Campus Ministry and continues to homeschool our last child at home.

Every day students wake up and walk on to campus asking the big questions of life: What is my purpose? Is there a God? Does he care about me?

While the gospel has spread in Latin America and Africa, the college campuses are holdouts. They are often spiritual deserts, and local churches lack the resources and manpower to target them. We want to come alongside, sending believers to reach these students with the gospel and disciple them at this critical time of their lives.

These are the future leaders in business and in the church for their cities and countries. Like Victor, pictured here left of Matt, who leads Cru's national ministry in Mexico now, but was once a college student led to Christ by a short-term mission participant. Stories like his are many.

When students from the U.S. go and return, they are better equipped and have a greater passion to reach their fellow students here in the U.S. with the gospel as well.

In our 3+ decades of working to fulfill the Great Commission, we have always been anchored in prayer and giving by a team of partners who God raises up to support us. We give Him all praise for this!

Can we share with you more about our ministry and how you might join that team?
