Program Policies

Class Transfer Policy We understand that scheduling needs may change. Please review our transfer policy below:

  • All transfer requests are subject to availability and are not guaranteed. This includes requests to change class times, session weeks, or swimmer levels.
  • To request a transfer, please complete our  Parent Support Form available on the Titan Recreation website.
  • Transfer requests must be submitted by the Friday prior to the start of the next session.
  • Once a session has begun, swimmers may not switch class times unless an instructor recommends a level adjustment for safety or skill appropriateness.

Registration Refund Policy We aim to accommodate refund requests whenever possible, while ensuring fair administration of our program: Refund Request Deadline:

  • Refund requests must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled class start time. (Sunday at 4pm) Requests submitted after this window will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Refund Processing Time:

  • Approved refunds will be processed within 72 hours of receipt. Please allow an additional 5–10 business days for your bank to post the refund to your account. A confirmation email will be sent once the refund has been processed on our end

Make Up Policy  Make-up lessons are not offered for participant absences or missed classes. In the event that a lesson is cancelled by Titan Recreation (including but not limited to pool maintenance, weather-related closures, or other facility-related issues), a make-up lesson will be scheduled. These make-up lessons will typically be held on a Friday during the same session and are subject to pool availability. Participants will be notified in advance with details regarding any scheduled make-up lessons. Goggles and Equipment To support skill development and water confidence, goggles are not permitted in Parent & Me through Level 1 classes. This allows participants to build foundational skills—such as comfort with water on the face and proper breath control—without reliance on equipment. Personal flotation devices (including life jackets, puddle jumpers, and water wings) are not permitted during lessons. Our program uses instructor-guided support and approved teaching equipment to ensure safety while helping swimmers build proper skills and independence in the water. We understand that some participants may have sensitivities or sensory-related needs. If your child requires accommodations, please speak with your instructor on the first day of class. We are happy to work with you to provide a supportive and inclusive experience for all swimmers. Attendance & Lateness Policy Regular attendance is strongly encouraged to support skill development and progression; however, participants are not required to attend every scheduled class. Students may arrive late or miss classes. Please note that make-ups are not provided for missed or late classes, regardless of reason. Instructors are unable to repeat instruction or extend class time for late arrivals, as this impacts the flow and safety of the group. Consistent attendance is recommended for the best learning experience.

Swim Diaper Policy

  • All children who are not fully toilet-trained are required to wear a swim diaper during all lessons.
  • Both disposable and reusable swim diapers are acceptable as long as they are designed for aquatic use.
  • Regular diapers are not permitted in the water under any circumstances.
  • This policy helps maintain water quality and ensures a safe, sanitary environment for all participants.

Weather & Facility Closure Policy

Safety is our top priority. Lessons may be delayed or canceled due to inclement weather or facility-related issues.

  • Communication regarding cancellations will be sent via text message as soon as decisions are made
  • In the event of lightning, lessons will be paused for 30 minutes following each lightning strike
  • The 30-minute timer resets after every new strike
  • If no additional lightning occurs for 30 minutes, lessons may resume
  • If lightning continues for 1 hour total, all lessons will be canceled for the remainder of the day

Weather and facility-related cancellations are the only circumstance in which make-up classes will be offered.

Behavior & Conduct Policy

We are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for all participants and staff.

  • Students are expected to follow instructor directions at all times
  • Disruptive, unsafe, or repeated non-compliant behavior may result in removal from class without refund or make-up
  • Physical aggression, refusal to participate safely, or behavior that endangers others will not be tolerated
  • Parents and guardians are expected to model respectful behavior while on facility grounds

We reserve the right to modify participation if behavior impacts the safety or learning environment of the class.

Supervision Policy

For safety reasons, all participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present on-site during their scheduled lesson time.

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for supervising children before and after class
  • Children should not be left unattended on pool deck or facility grounds
  • Siblings must remain under direct supervision at all times
  • Instructors are only responsible for participants during scheduled class time

Class Placement & Progression Policy

Swim lessons are skill-based, and progression is determined by instructor assessment rather than session completion.

  • Instructors may recommend moving a participant to a different level if it better supports their safety and development
  • Advancement is based on demonstrated skill mastery, not attendance or age alone
  • Placement decisions are made in the best interest of the swimmer to ensure appropriate challenge and safety
  • Families will be notified if a level change is recommended

Parking Information

We offer free parking for all Learn to Swim participants in Lot D, located next to the tennis courts off Gymnasium Way. All swim lesson families must park in the inside barricaded section of Lot D, which is reserved specifically for our program. These spaces are pre-paid by Titan Recreation and are intended to provide convenient, close access to the Student Recreation Center. Because space is limited, parking inside the barricades is available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you park in the correct designated area, parking is free and no additional action is needed. If the inside barricaded section of Lot D is full, families must park in one of the following paid options:

  • The unbarricaded section of Lot D (furthest from the SRC), or
  • The State College Parking Structure (first floor or other available levels)

In these overflow areas, parking must be paid through the ParkMobile app using posted QR codes or zone signs. The rate is $4.00 per hour. Please note: parking enforcement is active in this area. Vehicles parked outside of the designated free section without payment are subject to citation. We recommend arriving a few minutes early to allow time to find parking and complete payment if needed.

  • Towel

  • Swim Diaper (required for children not potty trained)
  • Goggles (for Level 2 and above only; exceptions made for chlorine sensitivity)

Facility Specifications

Lessons are held in a 2-lane, 25-yard recreation lap pool with a maximum depth of 4 feet, providing a safe and controlled environment for swimmers of all levels. The pool is maintained at approximately 86°F year-round. During summer months, water temperature may run slightly warmer due to outdoor conditions. There is ample comfortable, shaded seating available for parents and spectators surrounding the pool deck. Families are welcome to bring their own folding chairs and personal umbrellas if additional comfort is desired. For safety and space considerations, EZ-ups, canopies, and large shade structures are not permitted on the pool deck or surrounding areas. There are two gender-neutral family restrooms located on the pool deck, as well as one on-deck shower available for participant use. For safety and water quality reasons, soap and shampoo are not permitted for use on the pool deck or in the on-deck shower area.

First Day Procedures

To help ensure a smooth and organized start to lessons, please review the following check-in procedures for your first day:

Arrival & Parking

Please plan to arrive no more than 15 minutes before your scheduled lesson time to help with parking flow and traffic on deck. Upon arrival, park in Lot D. From there, cross the street and follow the concrete walkway along the Student Recreation Center building. Continue toward the front entrance of the facility.

Check-In

At the front doors of the Student Recreation Center, you will see a check-in table located in front of the pool deck gates. You may experience a brief wait in line. Once it is your turn, you will check in and receive a class card that includes:

  • Your swimmer’s class level
  • Lesson time
  • Instructor name

Finding Your Class Area

After check-in, please locate your assigned class meeting area, which will be clearly marked with a sign indicating your swimmer’s level. These areas are located in the shaded seating sections around the pool deck. A parent information card will also be provided, which includes a map of the facility and meeting areas for reference.

Meeting Your Instructor

Your instructor will be finishing a previous class and will meet your group at your designated meeting area once available. At that time, they will provide any additional program information and answer initial questions.

During Class

Once class begins, parents/guardians are welcome to sit in any comfortable seating area. For safety and instructional purposes, please do not sit on the edge of the pool deck, as this allows space for instructors and swimmers to move safely and freely.

After Class

At the end of each lesson, swimmers will be dismissed. We encourage parents to remain nearby for a brief moment, as instructors will make a quick round to share how your swimmer did during class. If you have any questions, please feel free to speak with your instructor—they are happy to help!
