Project Description:
The vision of the Idaho Outdoor Fieldhouse is to make Idaho a world-class destination for accessible recreation and life after the military. The first of its kind, this facility connects people of all ages and abilities through training, community and Idaho’s natural landscape.
This new headquarters for the Challenged Athletes Foundation of Idaho and Mission43 is a campus that provides a full range of programs. These include athletic training with a focus on preparing participants to experience the Idaho outdoors, job placement and career development services for veterans, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as well as temporary housing for participants in all of these programs.
The design of the facilities and site is focused on capturing the Idaho outdoor experience through the use of local architectural materials and forms. The site incorporates an escarpment at the entry, setting the tone and place of the campus. With the location adjacent to the Boise River Greenbelt trail system, participants have easy access to head outdoors and experience Idaho. Inclusive and universal design solutions are exhibited throughout the campus without being too obvious. The result is a space that inspires individuals to test their limits while providing a safe, supportive foundation.
