5th Grade Students Explore Native American Cultural Regions

The seven Native American cultural regions of North America

Research projects highlight the connection between geography and culture

Otselic Valley fifth grade students recently hosted a Native American Cultural Regions Open House to showcase the projects they have been working on in class. Working in groups, students each studied one of the seven Native American cultural regions of North America. As part of their research, students explored where each region is located, its geography, traditional food sources, types of shelter, cultural characteristics, clothing, and tribes from the region.

Students created informative posters and additional projects to represent their assigned regions, demonstrating both creativity and a strong understanding of how geography influenced the daily lives and cultures of Native American groups. The open house provided students with an opportunity to share what they learned while highlighting the engaging, hands-on learning experiences taking place in Otselic Valley classrooms.
