Canbury School Newsletter 14th March January 2025. ISSUE 351

Dear Families, Friends, Students and Staff.

Welcome to this week's newsletter. It's been a busy and productive week here at school, with students actively engaged in both academic and extracurricular pursuits.

Firstly, I'm pleased to share that our School Council held a productive meeting this week. One of their key requests was for a designated lost property box. In response, we are sourcing a suitable container, which will soon be located in the reception area. Students are encouraged to check this box regularly for any misplaced items. To ensure belongings are easily returned, please can ALL items of student property be clearly named. To maintain efficiency, uncollected items will be removed and rehomed on a weekly basis.

Our practical GCSE subjects are now underway with their examination components. It is truly wonderful to witness the dedication and hard work our students are putting into these assessments. We wish them all the very best with these exams.

Investigating Ecosystems in Richmond Park

This week, our Year 8 students ventured into Richmond Park for an exciting field trip as part of their science studies on ecosystems. Equipped with transect lines and quadrats, they conducted hands-on experiments to investigate the population sizes of different grasses. This practical experience allowed them to apply their classroom learning in a real-world environment, enhancing their understanding of biodiversity and ecological sampling techniques. Well done to all involved!

Great team work on show Year 8

Match Report

New Barn 1st Team 1 - 6 Canbury Stags

An illness ravaged squad took the hour-long trip down to Horsham this Wednesday to play New Barn on their home turf. A tentative first few minutes saw the Stags go one down, however after the end of the first quarter, the team settled and our confidence increased. Two quick fire goals from Lloyd saw the Stags redress the balance, and then take over. Lloyd added another goal to claim a hat trick and then goals from Theo, Morgan and Hugo completed a dominant display. It was a cracking away day, which the team very much enjoyed- a huge thanks should go to New Barn for hosting us.

Final match of the season next week for the Stags against Bensham Manor at Goals, Sutton.

Team spirit in full show this week!

Litter Pick Success

The Eco Team spent a chilly Friday morning litter picking in Canbury Gardens with Ms Lansdell and Mr Hogan as part of their Eco Schools Award programme. Well done for your contribution to a cleaner, greener community Eco Team!

Great way to demonstrate our Canbury values by showing respect for our local environment

Art Room Update

Year 9 have been bursting with creativity! This week, they've been diving into the world of cells, using watercolour to bring their scientific understanding to life. Inspired by the stunning petri dish art of Klari Reis, they've gone above and beyond with an exciting extension task. We're incredibly proud of their engagement and the beautiful results they've achieved. Check out the photos below to see their amazing watercolour cell work.

Such a wonderful range of colours and textures used

Wellbeing Hub: A Calm Space for Students

The Wellbeing Hub has been buzzing with energy this week, as students have come together to relax, connect, and showcase their talents. A particular highlight has been the fantastic guitar sessions, with students not only playing for enjoyment, but also giving Mr. Rush a lesson or two! Alongside the music, board games and friendly competition have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, reinforcing the importance of taking time to unwind and support one another. It’s been wonderful to see so many students making the most of this space!
