Yuba Water Agency's senior information security analyst, Drew Baumez, is responsible for providing guidance and recommendations to the Information Technology team to help ensure the agency is as safe as possible from cybersecurity threats. What does your average day look like? Or what are some of your essential duties?

My average day consists of a lot of research, reviewing possible incidents that may happen in terms of security and writing and reviewing policy for cybersecurity.

What is your background/formal education that led to where you are in your career today?

I have a background in operational technology/informational technology development and deployment, which I developed during my time in the U.S. Army. After retiring from the Army, I contracted with the U.S. Air Force and conducted cybersecurity for Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado and Beale Air Force Base. I also recently received my bachelor's degree in cybersecurity in August.

What do you enjoy most about working for Yuba Water ?

I like having the freedom to make changes quickly and efficiently that can affect the cybersecurity posture of the agency.

Before working here, what was the most interesting job you had?

During my time in the Army, I worked with the Army Special Forces Divers where I had the opportunity to do everything from IT-related work to scuba diving and training with other special operation units across the United States and in foreign nations as well.

Tell us something about yourself that most of us don’t know.

I was previously a jumpmaster in the Army where I regularly jumped out of planes.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my family, playing video and tabletop games and using my 3D printer.
