Success for All

Cedar Elementary Remembers

Not only does Cedar Elementary recognize Remembrance Day with a traditional assembly, the intermediate grades also walk to the Cedar Valley Memorial to visit the Field of Honour. Students and staff gather, sing Oh Canada, take a moment of silence, share student poetry and more. This annual event was incredibly powerful this year, as they were gifted with one of Cedar's beloved TTOCs, Rene Cusson, who is also a professional bag piper. It was an incredible day of remembrance that both staff and students will remember.

District-wide Cross Country Meet

A big thank you to all the volunteers and supporters who cheered on our young athletes at this year's District-wide Cross Country Meet. It was amazing to watch the students work so hard in their races.

Wellington Fall Family Photo Day

The Wellington photography program held their third annual family photo day at Neck Point on October 25th. The event allowed students to have an active role expanding the knowledge and skillset pertaining to family portraiture. Students who have developed the fundamental skill set of portraiture were able to take their photography to the next level by photographing the families of some of our educators in Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools. These photos will serve as timeless keepsakes that can also be used as Christmas cards to be distributed to friends and loved ones.

All proceeds collected from the day were donated to the Wellington School food bank. In the end, 13 families participated in the event and the photography department was able to raise approximately $700 that will be used to support families during the holiday season.

A big shout out to our photography students - photograph bottom right, (Abbigail Simms, Molly Paugh, Winter Mckeen, Hishaun Bhatti). They did an amazing job!!!

Class Letters to Santa

Canada Post has asked us to share some important information about Students' Letters to Santa. Of particular note, if your class is thinking of writing and mailing letters to the North Pole, letters should be mailed by December 1, 2023. Letters mailed after this date may not make it to the North Pole Post Office in time for Santa to write and send his reply back before school is out for winter break. Below you can find details on how to mail class letters to Santa and a teacher checklist.

Please note: the instructions ask for a printed class list. Only include the child's first name. If you have two children with the same name, only include the first names and last name initials. Thank you for your attention to this detail.

Energy Cup & Energy Cup MINI

The 9th Annual Energy Cup and 3rd Annual Energy Cup MINI runs from November 1, 2023 until February 29, 2024. Both Energy Cups are district-wide competitions that empower teachers and students to save energy and think about sustainability in schools.

This competition also encourages schools to collectively work towards the Board of Education's Goal To be a leader in environmental stewardship and sustainability. Listen to how some schools were making a difference last year:
