EVA ANDREWS BY Kyle rOBINSON

Eva Andrews is a 5’10’’ combo guard from Barrington New Jersey, known for her sharpshooting and finishing ability. The McDonald’s All-American nominee is a freshman on the Women’s Basketball team here at A&T.

Studying Architectural Engineering has been a dream of hers since a young age. “I have always been enamored by the beautiful structure of buildings, I would play with legos as a child often wondering how things were made”, Andrews said. “I’m blessed to be able to pursue a degree in the field, I believe I’m making the correct step”.

“Beside graduating from high school, I haven’t really accomplished much. I'm on an academic-athletic scholarship with plans of using it.” Andrews said when asked about academics accomplishments. “Although, I did happen to make Dean’s List with a 3.62 GPA. I’m very proud of that."

During her senior year Andrews averaged 12 ppg with high shooting splits of near 58 percent from the field, 92 percent from the free throw and 41 percent from three. In that time she was

"I'm still learning how to time manage my athletics and academics, so I haven't joined any clubs or organizations,” Andrews stated when asked. “I love to bake! Baking is something I do with my roommate often and it is a way that we bond and even get away from worrying about the pressure of our everyday lives."

"Besides baking, I like to build Legos in my free time, paint or even color to get away from my normal day-to-day schedule."

Eva Andrews has a multicultural background with a strong passion for both. "I'm a kid who comes from a black father and a Hispanic/Ukrainian mother, it’s very imperative to me that I understand the culture and heritage that comes from each. I'm honored by difference in the struggle and the achievement of each culture and heritage that I come from. It's one of the main reasons I chose A&T."

"Coming from the New Jersey & Pennsylvania area I grew up in a competitive scene with a lot of kids playing for something more than themselves. Personally, my chip on my shoulder came from trying to prove I was better than my older sister or being the best on the court."

"I come from an athletic family. My mother, father and played at the collegiate level, so I've known at a very young age that I wanted to do the same." Andrews answered replied when asked about family, heritage and culture.

We all had something that someone said impact us in many ways, when asked about hers Andrews states it comes from her father. ""Whatever you do in the dark will always be shown in the light” I've taken that and ran with that my throughout my entire career. Whether it's 5AM practices, where nobody knew I was in the gym or if it was after practice and I stayed longer to put up extra shots. I’ve always believed that whatever you do in the dark will show in the light because you’re always prepared."

"My best advice to someone who wants to play at this level is keep your head down and keep working. Like I said "whatever you do in the dark will be shown in the light" so as long as you’re working, that’s all that really matters." When asked about advice or encouragement towards dreaming athletes. Andrews also said, "As well as finding a good support system because when you’re in that growing phase where you are looking for a school it is important for you to have good people in your corner to keep your head level and to help you find the best place for you."

When asked about playstyle comparisons Andrews stated, Klay Thompson. "I’ve got a lot of comparisons to his game and how he shoots, his flutily and ability to remain poise, it's admirable.” "Just because people aren’t usually watching it doesn’t mean when they finally do that “it’s luck,” it’s just the hard work that was put in."

"The best thing I learned on my basketball journey is to live in the moment, especially in high school. As of now, I’m trying to live in the moment here in college, it's a change of pace from what I'm typically use to." Andrews said when asked. "I would wish it would go by faster and now that it’s over it feeling saddening to know that I’m never gonna get to play with the girls who used to be my teammates again. I’m never gonna have the high school camaraderie of the hometown rivals, playing in front of the people that I've grew up with and I just wish I knew at the time that I should live in the moment."

Eva Andrews is a hardworking student athlete with dreams of pursuing a career in Architectural Engineering. Andrews is in her second semester at A&T, still managing who she is and wants to accomplish.
