Track & Field Earns All-American Honors in Seven Events at NCAA Division III Championships

Traveling to the national meet in Wisconsin with three relay squads and athletes set to compete in four individual events, the Mules felt good about their trajectory this spring to perform their best when it counted the most. Little did they know Colby would earn All-American distinction in all seven events.

Simone Waheed

The women's team finished 13th out of 129 represented schools. Simone Waheed earned fourth place finishes in both the 100m and 200m, and teamed with Tally Zeller, Kaitlyn Ewald, and Charlotte Brake-Hoffman to place sixth in the 4x100 Relay (headline photo). Colby's 4x400 Relay squad of Alex Hermsdorf, Brake-Hoffman, Olivia Doherty, and Ewald earned bronze by placing third in Saturday's final.

Levi Biery

Colby's men's team was just as impressive, collecting three All-American awards to finish 34th out of 116 competing schools. Levi Biery placed third in the 400 Hurdles, Lexington Lehnert placed 12th in the Pole Vault, and the 4x400 Relay team of Samuel Graubart, Mark Grabuart, Jackson Coelho, and Biery cruised into an 11th place finish.

Combined with the winter indoor championships, the Track & Field teams earned All-American status in an astonishing 11 events.

Softball's Historic Run Ends at Super Regionals

After already setting a program record for wins ahead of last week's NCAA Regional bracket, Colby made the most of its first NCAA tournament appearance to win the Bangor Regional and advance to the Sweet-16. Their Super Regional opponent was the 40-win Rowan Profs, but the Mules were intent on keeping their special season going.

Sophia Meade

In Thursday's opener of the best-of-three series, Colby's Sophia Meade was spectacular in the circle. Holding Rowan scoreless through the first six innings, the sophomore collected seven strikeouts to take the Mules into the seventh with the sore locked 0-0. The hosts managed a baserunner to open the frame, swiped second a moment later, and plated the winning run off a defensive miscue to take the victory 1-0.

Carissa Cassidy, Avery Lyman, and Kathryne Clay accounted for Colby's three hits.

Carissa Cassidy

Rowan wasted little time scoring in Friday's game 2, sending two runs across the plate in the first and another in the third. The Mules continued to grind at the plate, collecting seven hits in their comeback attempt led by Cassidy with two singles. Rowan's defense was up to the challenge and with a 3-0 win the Profs advanced to the Elite-8.

Colby ends the campaign with a 30-14 record, six wins above their previous high of 24 set in the 2023 season.

38th Annual Senior Sports Awards

Colby Athletics celebrated over 150 senior student-athletes prior to commencement weekend at the 38th annual Senior Sports Awards. With a record number of nominations for nine categories, and finalists representing 20 of Colby's 32 programs, award winners came from Colby's Alpine Skiing, Cross Country, Ice Hockey, Softball, Squash, Swimming & Diving, and Track & Field programs.
