Principal's Report
Dear Parents, Carers, Staff, and Students,
As we wrap up Term 1, I am pleased to share that we have had a fantastic start to the school year. It has been wonderful to see our students settle into their classes with enthusiasm and a strong commitment to learning. With minimal staff turnover and a well-structured four-day School Development program to begin the year, both teaching and non-teaching staff were well-prepared and eager to dive into the term.
This term, we have continued to place a strong focus on fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. Through our continued partnership with Real Schools, we have further developed restorative conversations and strengthened relationships across our school community. Our teachers have worked diligently to create engaging and accessible lessons for all learning styles. Targeted professional learning in Explicit Teaching and Literacy has played a key role in refining instructional methods, while ongoing training in Equity has ensured that every student feels valued and motivated. Additional professional development in the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education policies and procedures has further enhanced our curriculum delivery, equipping students with the tools they need to excel.
The APEX (Year 12 Case Management) program has continued to progress well, with students benefiting from a range of HSC enrichment days and programs designed to support their academic success. Meanwhile, our Big Picture Advisories have been thriving, and I have had the pleasure of attending several student exhibitions. It has been truly inspiring to witness the rapid development of our students’ learning and presentation skills in such a short time.
Our school community has also enjoyed a strong engagement in extracurricular activities. The Swimming, Athletics, and Cross-Country Carnivals were all well attended, with impressive participation rates across the board. These events not only showcased the athletic abilities of our students but also fostered a sense of school spirit and camaraderie.
In addition, we have prioritized open communication with parents and carers. Our Parent-Teacher Night at The Doylo was a tremendous success, with a fantastic turnout from families. This event provided a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to connect, discuss student progress, and set meaningful goals together. Your involvement in your child’s education makes a significant difference, and we are truly grateful for your continued support.
Looking ahead to Term 2, we are excited to build on this momentum and continue striving for excellence. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff for their unwavering commitment and to our students for their energy, resilience, and enthusiasm. Let’s carry this positive energy forward - here’s to an even more successful Term 2. I would also like to thank Ms Nicolle Paul in advance who will be relieving Principal throughout the term.
Wishing all our students and families a safe, restful, and enjoyable Autumn holiday break.
Warm regards,
Tony Keevill - Principal, Lake Munmorah High School

English - Faculty Report
Term One has been a fantastic start to the year, with students across all year levels diving into a range of exciting texts and producing some impressive creative, persuasive, and analytical responses.
We were thrilled to welcome Elevate Education, who ran a study skills seminar for our Year 12 students. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive—students found the session engaging and walked away with valuable tips to support their HSC preparation.
In the junior years, Year 7 explored how cultural perspectives are conveyed through a variety of text types, while Year 8 investigated the legend of Ned Kelly—hero, villain, or victim?—and crafted some compelling persuasive responses. Year 9 ventured into the eerie world of the horror genre, and Year 10 engaged with thought-provoking dystopian texts, reflecting on themes of power, survival, and morality.
We’re looking forward to an exciting Term Two! Keep an eye out for information about Stage 4 and 5 debating teams. Joining debating is a great opportunity for students to build confidence and sharpen their speaking skills.
Science - Faculty Report
As we commence the year, we are delighted to report a positive start in the Science Faculty. Our Year 7 students are becoming familiar with laboratory procedures and learning to use scientific equipment effectively and safely. Currently, they are exploring the states of matter—solids, liquids, and gases—while engaging in an enjoyable experiment involving liquid nitrogen to create ice cream.
Students in Years 8 through 10 have successfully completed their first assessment task, which focused on the scientific method. Year 8 participated in a teacher-led experiment where they formulated a hypothesis and identified variables to conduct a scientific investigation. Meanwhile, Years 9 and 10 had the opportunity to select independent projects, and we have been thoroughly impressed with the high quality of research reports submitted thus far.
This year, selected students from Years 9 and 10 participated in the Science and Engineering Challenge hosted by the University of Newcastle. Under the guidance of Mrs. Gobor and Mr. Patrick, our students demonstrated remarkable perseverance and creativity while tackling various scientific challenges. We are proud to announce that, despite not winning the overall competition, our students achieved commendable success by outperforming several esteemed local high schools.
Additionally, our Year 11 Biology students recently had the opportunity to conduct a field study at Norah Head Rock Platform, where they collected both qualitative and quantitative data to assess the health of the local environment. Mr. McGovern and Mr. Allen expressed their admiration for the dedication exhibited by many students during this study, as they diligently gathered the necessary data to complete their first assessment task.
I would also like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Paul Nebauer, who has quickly become an integral part of our Science Faculty. It has been a pleasure to witness his enthusiasm for science and his extensive experience being shared with both colleagues and students.
Finally, I would like to remind students and parents to take some time during the holidays to review and restock student pencil cases. Ensuring that students are equipped with essential items, including pens, pencils, glue, scissors, and rulers, will help us all start Term 2 prepared for a successful learning experience.

CAPA - Faculty Report
Music
It has been an exciting term in CAPA with all the performances and activities planned! Layla Smith's performance at the end of term celebration assembly and the Year 7 bucket drumming sessions are wonderful highlights that showcase the students' talents and hard work. Ms Gillard, Mr van Drempt and Ms Stephens have been helping our students achieve success this term (even Mr Hearne dropped by for a jam with Y12 students). In Term 2 we have the HSC Music study day excursion and the LMHS Club Munmorah Gig.
Modern Languages
It's wonderful that Year 8 students are learning about Japan's language and culture! By exploring artefacts, they gain a better understanding of Japanese traditions and history. Practicing speaking and writing in Japanese will help them improve their language skills. A highlight is the celebration of the the Japanese Doll Festival, also known as Hinamatsuri, is celebrated annually on March 3rd. These dolls are arranged on a tiered platform and are a key part of the festival tradition.
Photography & Digital Media
Year 10 students started their study of photography by exploring the anatomy of analogue and digital cameras. Students have created their own digital portfolios of work on their own websites, which showcase their outstanding catalogue of work created throughout the course so far. Another highlight has been the digitally designed stickers that photography students have created this term on a cultural topic of their interest.
Visual Arts
Our junior visual arts students have started the year by exploring the elements of art and creating unique artworks that utilise expressive techniques with colour, pattern and tone. The art masters passion project are going back in time to the renaissance, making their own paper, inks and brushes from upcycled materials.
For our older students we have some fantastic experiences coming up, including our annual Art Adventure, which this year returns to Hobart (TAS) to visit the world famous MONA gallery!
We also had the pleasure of celebrating the success of our 2024 HSC visual arts student Laura Dunn. Her work was competitively selected for the annual First Class exhibition at MAC yapang Gallery, our school has been represented in this outstanding showcase for 15 consecutive years. Well done Laura!

Mathematics - Faculty Report
Celebrating a Successful First Term of 2025
As Term 1 comes to a close at Lake Munmorah High School, the Mathematics Faculty would like to acknowledge the fantastic efforts of all our students. A special mention goes to those who have completed their NAPLAN testing—your hard work and perseverance are commendable.
With Term 2 on the horizon, we remind all students and families that the Maths Study Centre is open every morning from 7:30 AM in E205. This is a great opportunity for students to revise classwork, seek help, and prepare for upcoming exams in a supportive learning environment.
Getting Ready for Term 2 To ensure students are fully equipped for their studies, we remind families that all students are expected to have their own scientific calculator. We strongly recommend the Casio branded scientific calculator, which can be conveniently purchased over the phone through the front office of the school.
On behalf of the Mathematics Faculty, we wish all students a restful break and look forward to seeing everyone return refreshed and ready for another successful term!

Students have been getting hands-on with real-world problem-solving by pulling apart and diagnosing a boat motor that wouldn’t start. Through teamwork, observation, and practical investigation, students explored the inner workings of small engines and developed a better understanding of mechanical systems. It's been an engaging and exciting way to bring learning to life!
7 Textiles
Year 7 Textiles have been busy getting creative (and a little messy) as they design and sew their very own Messy Monsters! This fun and colourful project introduces students to the basics of hand sewing, pattern making, and fabric selection. With plenty of personality and imagination stitched into each creation, it’s been fantastic to see students developing their skills while bringing their quirky monsters to life!
The classes also created some weaving projects and demonstrated some very advanced crotchet skills.
Yr 10 Fashion
Students have been working on a costume unit. They have designed a range of different costume ideas and produced a variety of different costumes and props. The image below are a few of the items created. A sequined wrap that’s purpose is to hind a costume underneath before unveiling to an audience. The three black vests are themed as a range for the three blind mice. One vest is an old man costume and the tie dye from the 70s
Students are continuing building on their skills in machining and creativity
11 Maths in trade
Our Year 11 Maths in Trade students have been putting their measurement and geometry skills to the test by crafting their very own wooden chess boards. This hands-on project combines mathematical concepts like ratios, area, and precision measuring with practical woodworking skills. Year 12 students are engaged in the development of their HSC Major Projects. This phase of the course challenges them to apply and extend their practical and design skills, as they bring their ideas to life through complex, high-quality timber constructions. Each project is a reflection of their growth and commitment to mastering new techniques.
VET Hospitality
Yr 11 Food and Beverage students hosted a lunch for the Newcastle University Alumni and yr 12 Students. The event was an information session for future uni students interested in furthering their studies. Yr 11 catered a sit down 2 course lunch that was very well received and students were complimented on their performance and the fine dinner experience.
Yr 12 Hospitality completed their second round of workplacement this term with students gaining skills in the service of food and beverage in a variety of locations and situations. Thankyou to the host businesses that offer to host our students for the week. It’s a great community collaboration with the feedback from the host employers stating that the students form Lake Munmorah High School are responsible, courteous and respectful whilst working and are a credit to themselves and the school.
The TAS faculty have participated in whole school events including the swimming and athletics carnival, building repour with our student and striving to create lasting memories for all.
Support Unit - Faculty Report
Support Classes Take to the Water: A Wonderful Experience with Sailability
This term, two of our support classes Aqua and Silver, had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Sailability program, an initiative that offers students one-on-one sailing experiences on Lake Macquarie. With the support of dedicated volunteers from Sailability NSW and the fantastic facilities provided by the Mannering Park Amateur Sailing Group, our students were given a memorable and enriching experience on the water.
The students had the chance to sail a two-person boat, learning valuable sailing skills while enjoying the beauty of the lake. In addition to gaining hands-on experience, they also had the opportunity to engage with the volunteers, learning important life lessons and gaining insights that go beyond the water.
Sailing is a wonderful sport that promotes teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving, while also offering a sense of freedom and adventure. The benefits of participating in such activities are immeasurable, from physical exercise to the development of social and emotional skills.
Several students enjoyed their time so much that they are eager to pursue sailing further in the future. We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm and willingness to embrace this new challenge. We look forward to seeing how their experiences on the water continue to inspire them.
Tafe opportunities.
This year, several senior students have been undertaking TAFE courses both online and on campus. These courses include Vocational Skills, Game Design, Animal Care, and Child Studies. Through their studies, students have been developing practical skills that will support their transition into adulthood while also working towards earning TAFE certificates
🌿 Community Access Excursions 🚌
This term, students have enjoyed participating in Community Access excursions to a range of local locations, including Pirrita Island in Swansea, Terrigal Boardwalk, Speers Point Park, The Entrance, Norah Head Lighthouse and different shopping centres. These outings have allowed students to explore different environments, observe local plant and animal life, and develop their travel training skills by using public transport. These excursions have been a great way for students to build independence, connect with their community, and enjoy the outdoors.
Taskmaster Challenges
The senior classes in the Support Unit, Orange and Aqua, have been participating in weekly challenges inspired by the British comedy show ‘Taskmaster Junior’. These challenges have tested a huge variety of skills such as coordination, dexterity and problem-solving. The students have had a great time participating and engaging in some friendly competition.
Junior & Senior Leadership Team
Term 1 Report
The leadership team has had a fantastic start to their fundraising efforts for 2025!
On Wednesday 26th of March LMHS leaders raised money for the 800,000 Australians that suffer from Epilepsy. This involved encouraging staff and students to wear purple accessories and collecting donations for the research into a cure for epilepsy and support for families of those who suffer from epilepsy. This was very successful, and the team raised $196 for the Epilepsy Foundation! The leaders also set certain fundraising goals and volunteer staff put their hand up to have ‘purple muck’ poured on them during our colour run event. This was a great way to raise school spirit and create awareness for those 65 million people in the world who live with epilepsy.
The leadership team has also set a fundraising goal for the school. Throughout term 1 they sold raffle tickets for our Easter raffle, in hopes of eventually being able to construct seats on our school oval for various sporting events. Special shout out to our current prefect, Riley Morgan, who went above and beyond when it came to sourcing donations from the community. We would also like to thank all staff who donated Easter eggs for this raffle and everyone who purchased tickets. Congratulations to our lucky winners! We hope you enjoy your Easter treats!
Finally, Mrs Gobor would like to share how proud she is of both the junior and senior leaders for their leadership of these fundraising events and the term 1 celebration assembly. They have demonstrated pride for their school through these actions, and their public speaking skills and ability to interact with the school community has been very impressive!
The leadership team looks forward to running many more successful fundraising and school spirit raising events in term 2!

Year 12 - Miss Emily Davis
As Term 1 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what’s been an energetic, exciting, and sometimes slightly competitive start to the year. Year 12 has truly set the tone, showing spirit, leadership, and a touch of competitiveness!
Swimming Carnival
The swimming carnival was a huge success, and it was fantastic to see so many of our seniors getting involved – whether they were swimming in the events, dressing up in their outrageous Aussie icons costume, or simply cheering their hearts out from the stands. Special shoutout to those that hopped on the mic and cheered on the students in their races!
Athletics Carnival
Another great turn out by Year 12 for our annual Athletic's Carnival! This time the theme was 'Decades' and the Year 12's did not dissapoint! It was awesome to see so many of you getting involved in the events of the day especially in the very hot weather! Thanks to those that came over to assist with the BBQ and/or have a boogy with the tunes!
Fundraising Success!
We’ve also made a fantastic start on our fundraising goals this term. The Athletics Carnival BBQ was a hit, raising just under $200 thanks to some sizzling sausage skills and great teamwork. But the standout effort? Our McDonald’s Fun Day at Lake Haven – which brought in an incredible $588! A massive thank you to all the students, families, and staff who supported us. Every dollar helps bring us closer to making the Year 12 formal a memorable one!!
Munner’s Cup – Speedball Showdown
Now, let’s talk about the legendary Munner’s Cup. The speedball match between staff and Year 12 students had everyone hyped – and while the students brought skill and swagger, I regret to inform you (or perhaps gloat a little) that the teachers reigned supreme this term. That’s right – experience (and possibly a little rule-bending) triumphed over youth and energy. But don’t worry, Year 12 – there’s always next term. The rematch is coming, and I hear strategies are already being discussed in the common room…
All in all, it’s been a term filled with laughs, leadership, and loads of memorable moments. I couldn’t be prouder of how our Year 12s have stepped up.
Wishing everyone a safe and restful break – Term 2 is shaping up to be just as exciting!
Miss Davis
