Our first text in Literacy was Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. We learned the story from a story map and talked about the characters, setting and main events from the story.
In our focused writing groups we learned how to form our letters correctly and practised writing sentences using a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop. Some of us were challenged to think of our own sentences from the story.
In maths we explored teen numbers and place value and learned that numbers in the teens have a group of ten and ones. We learned how to write them numerically and made them in different ways using Numicon and Diennes. We then explored odd and even numbers beyond ten.
Our next topic was shape and after recapping the names and properties of 2D shapes we moved onto 3D shapes, learning their names and some of their properties. We explored 2D and 3D shapes in our environment.
Look at our fantastic symmetrical patterns.
In PE our topic was gymnastics and we learned different balances, rolls jumps and stretches and put them together to perform a simple gymnastic routine.
Coming Next
Our first text next half term is the Tiny Seed by Eric Carle. We will be learning all about what plants need to grow in Science and planting our own seeds in the classroom and observing the changes as they grow. We will also be labelling the parts of a plant. In maths we will be covering addition and subtraction again with larger numbers. Our subject driver is Design Technology and we will be learning simple sewing techniques and weaving to create webs and other designs.
Once again we would like to thank all parents and carers for their ongoing support over Spring Term 1 and look forward to working with you over the next half term.
