Message

Dear parents and carers,

It was a great return to the academy this week. The sun was shining, and everyone was pleased to see each other again after a week off from school.

Year six started the week with a trip to the Tower of London. This is an annual event and children soaked up the history of London and the culture of the capital.

Having worked so hard to organise our Summer Fete, the PTA had to unfortunately postpone the event due to weather. But, we know how committed they are to making sure our children are not disappointed, and they worked relentlessly yesterday to secure another date! We look forward to seeing our families at this annual event.

This week we also welcomed back Miss Lynch after her maternity leave. She has received a warm Darlinghurst welcome from staff, children and parents alike. Miss Lynch has been part of the Darlinghurst family for a long time and is a treasured member of the team. For those new to the academy, Miss Lynch is a senior leader with responsibility for KS1 and Phonics. She is passionate about early reading and reading for pleasure alongside the reading team, Mrs Richards and Mr Dunne.

We are delighted to have her back. If you want to say hello, she is often on the main gate entrance for meet and greet.

Mrs Grant - our inclusion leader is currently recovering from an operation and is not at the academy for this half term. The SEN team remain forward facing supporting our children and their needs. Background work will still continue and any questions can be directed to Mrs Ricks, SEN admin or you can speak with Mrs HB.

Safeguarding remains paramount and Mrs Hahn is our designated safeguarding lead for Darlinghurst in Mrs Grant’s absence. Any concerns will continue to be dealt with swiftly and in support of children’s safety and welfare.

Mrs Grant has maintained a very high attendance record, and we know that being away from work is not easy. Time for some self- care and we wish her a speedy recovery.

As always, enjoy your family time together.

Mrs Nicholls

Uniform

There has been an increase in coloured hair braids and whilst some have been academy colours. We politely remind you that hair accessories should be of academy colours – blue, white or black and braids should be natural and neutral.

PE trainers should be black

As we hope for the sun to return, please ensure that sun cream is applied to your child before school, that they have a labelled sun hat and water bottle.

30 Days Wild

It’s that time of year again!

30 Days Wild is The Wildlife Trusts’ annual challenge event, where everyone is challenged to do one wild thing a day throughout the month of June. From planting flowers to listening to birdsong. It is a wonderful way to connect with wildlife, boost your well-being and make a positive impact on the plant.

This week, early years have kickstarted our challenge. Take a look at what they’ve been up to.

Why not take part in the challenge at home? We would love to see what challenges you take part in, please send any pictures to mrsalexander@darlinghurstacademy.org.uk

Year 6 trip to Tower of London

On Monday, year 6 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Tower of London. We enjoyed seeing the Crown Jewels, walking the battlements and exploring the White Tower as well as seeing the ravens and models of the menagerie. The weather was kind to us and the sun shone all day. After all the hard work of SATs, it was lovely to relax and enjoy a day out as a year group.
