Welcome to this week's newsletter
The week has flown by with lots of big things happening here at Manor. The main event of the week was our Year 6 into 7 Open Evening where we opened the doors to prospective families to look around the school. Our staff were supported by a whole range of students from different year groups. We had singing in the quad, biscuit baking in the kitchens, instrument playing in music rooms, sports activities in the Sports Hall and whole range of games and activities in classrooms. Our Sixth Form guides kept the whole evening running smoothly. I was ably assisted by three Year 7s, Farren, Prince and Kaiden, alongside our Head Students, Charlie, Isabella and Lucy, when presenting to families in the Main Hall. The evening made me so proud of the whole school and reminded me of what a warm and welcoming school we are. It made me want to sing!
I have also shown round some families on tours this week, and it is great dropping into lessons to see our students learning purposefully and calmly. There is a lovely atmosphere as I walk round the school, and I welcome current parents/carers who want to see the school in action to let me know. I will book some time in to show you around the school.
We have had a number of sports fixtures this week with a whole range of results. It was great to hear of staff and students getting out to support our teams. I will aim to get out myself in the next few weeks to cheer them on.
I am also proud that Manor School has been awarded the Bounce Forward Healthy Minds kitemark, endorsed by the London School of Economics. It is also part of ensuring that the mental health of our whole community is a focus at Manor. There are more details of this in this newsletter.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend and I look forward to next week.
Adam Crawte, Interim Principal
Healthy Minds kitemark
Manor School is proud to announce we have achieved the Bounce Forward Healthy Minds kitemark. We are the first Harry Kane lead school to receive the award. This milestone is a significant move forward in our mission to deliver the best personal, social and health education available and evidence of our ongoing commitment to the personal development of our students.
Duke of Edinburgh Award applications
We are offering the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) to students in Year 9.
The DofE is a great chance for your child to broaden their horizons, discover new interests and talents, have fun with friends, develop essential skills for their future and achieve an internationally renowned award.
For full details and the enrolment form, please download the letter below. Please note that the completed form must be returned to Miss Pell and the payment made on Arbor by Monday 7 October.
Ofqual consultation
Since the COVID pandemic the previous government and Ofqual made the decision each year to provide equation sheets to maths and science students to reduce the burden on those whose education was most significantly affected by the school closures. The current government have made the decision to continue this until 2027, and Ofqual are currently consulting on it.
Manor School welcomes this move because it will provide much-needed clarity about the arrangements for these exams and will allow us to prepare the students more effectively, including from the very start of their GCSE studies.
We would encourage any parents/carers of Year 9, 10 or 11 students to participate in the consultation and share their support for the proposal. You can do this by following this link.
The consultation will be open until 11:45pm on Thursday 17 October.
Sports results and fixtures
Manor's U13 girls football team were in action again this week facing Sir Christopher Hatton and Rushden Academy with some excellent football on display from all the schools' teams. Our girls lost 1-0 to SCH in the first game, conceding late in the second half to head in from a corner, but then beat Rushden 2-1 in the second game with goals from Lexi Y and Sofia M. The girls have two rounds left for their district games, with next week's away games to Ferrers and Weavers.
Our U15 boys football team had their first fixture in quite some time this week. Playing over at Wrenn and without an experienced goalkeeper we found ourselves 4-2 down at half time. A couple of changes and the team came out strong in the second half, scoring 2 goals and conceding none. A 4-4 final score was probably a fair result and gets this team off to a good start before they play again on Wednesday.
The Year 9 and KS4 netball games due to be played against Wrenn this week were unfortunately cancelled due to bad weather, but the girls are in action this coming Tuesday at Manor playing SCH and Rushden. The games against Wrenn have been rearranged for Tuesday 12 November.
Next week's fixtures
- Monday 7th: KS4 hockey away at Wollaston
- Tuesday 8th: Y9 and KS4 netball at home vs SCH & Rushden
- Tuesday 8th: U17 boys football county cup at home vs Bosworth
- Wednesday 9th: U15 boys football at home vs SCH & Rushden
- Thursday 10th: U13 girls football away at Ferrers vs Ferrers & Weavers
Start time for all fixtures is approximately 4pm, with finish times between 5:00-5:30pm.
