October 2024 Ten Ten Resources Parent Newsletter

Our October resources explore Jesus’ welcome for everyone and His leadership through loving service. We are encouraged to have an attitude of child-like trust in God who makes all things possible and to respond to Jesus’ call to put others before ourselves.

This newsletter shares some of the content children will experience in school throughout October and suggests ways for you to engage with them about it. We hope it is a useful resource for your family prayer time.

The Month of the Rosary

October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, and it’s a great opportunity to highlight this beautiful traditional prayer. The Rosary is a meditative prayer that reflects on the life, mystery, and death of Jesus and also on His Blessed mother. As we repeat the familiar prayers, we allow our minds to think about the lives of Jesus and Mary here on Earth - a mystery.

We’d like to support and encourage families to pray the Rosary especially during October and so we’ve made available a simple Rosary resource which can be accessed through the Parent Portal.

Like A Child

The first assembly of October reminds us of Jesus’ love and care for children.

In the Gospel, Jesus welcomes children, despite others trying to keep them away. Jesus commends the open-heartedness of children and calls us all to love and trust God with child-like faith.

The assembly explores ‘child-like’ with a light-hearted look at the behaviours we encourage children to ‘grow out of’, before looking deeper at the positive ‘child-like’ qualities such as trust, wonder and joy that Jesus wants us all to aspire to.

With your child, you might like to…

Look at photographs or mementos of your family growing up and talk about how each member of the family is welcomed and valued.
Talk about the child-like qualities of curiosity, wonder, love, joy and trust. When have they shown those qualities or seen them in others? How do these qualities help us all to learn, grow and become closer to God?
Think of ways as a family you can all be more child-like in your faith e.g. trusting in God and listening to His guidance, being curious and learning more about God, being joyful and loving.

Here To Serve

In the Gospels, Jesus reveals the true nature of His style of leadership: servanthood.

“Anyone who wants to become great among you must be your servant…” Mark 10:43

Children will focus on praying for leaders in different situations.

They will learn that we can all lead like Jesus and draw on the strength of the Holy Spirit.

You might like to use this short prayer as part of your family prayer time…

Jesus,

We want to be like you.

Send your Holy Spirit to

help us to be good leaders in all we do.

Amen
