Who is developing a new waterfront hotel in Macau.

Genting Macau Enterprise, a Hong Kong-listed company, is building a 21-story hotel on two acres of reclaimed land in the southern half of Macau. Sources have suggested that the project will open in 2022 and that the owner could previously bring gambling components to the property as part of the upcoming casino licence bidding process for the former Portuguese residence.

Genting Hong Kong Limited, however, reportedly used an official filing to explain that real estate investor Aomio Leung had signed a contract to pay about $96.1 million for a 50% stake in Genting Macau. The company has reportedly declared that the contract with the man behind the local real estate development firm Yoho Group forms part of its "core asset sale goal," reducing the overall financial burden and allowing the subsidiary to meet "future financing requirements."

Genting Hong Kong Limited reportedly announced that the deal was due to an agreement by Long to pay about $6.4 million in cash and take over liability for loans secured against its subsidiaries worth about $89.7 million. The company also reportedly claimed that it expects the deal to result in a long-term loss of about $159 million, although it creates an immediate liquidity of $95.9 million.

Genting Hong Kong Limited, which is currently responsible for three cruise ships under the Dream Cruise brand covering Genting Dream, World Dream and Explorer Dream ships, reportedly suspended creditor payments in August as part of efforts to restructure debt and preserve liquidity amid the coronavirus-induced downturn. The company is currently in a hole worth about $3.37 billion and is reportedly reeling after first-half losses rose more than 1,200% year-over-year to $742.6 million.
