Artist of the week

Sofia Ouftallah Y10 Simmonds has worked incredibly hard producing this intricate stencil design using continuous line inspired by the work of Kris Trappenier, stencil design artist. Sofia spent 2 hours of lesson time cutting out a detailed stencil design. This outcome is a stencil print. A smashing piece of art work! Well done.

Deeper Learning Day

Students across all year groups had a day off-timetable this week to partake in deeper learning activities.

Year 7 enjoyed leadership workshops as part of their PiXL Edge award, including a resilience session and an escape room challenge.

Year 8 took part in art, singing, dance and drama lessons and at the end of the day competed within their forms to show off their progress.

Year 9 had communication advice from talk the talk, supporting students to communicate confidently, constructively and cooperatively in group situations. they explored effective communication skills in group talk situations such as debating, negotiating and planning as well as how to get their ideas across persuasively.

Year 10 were engaged in Safeguarding and Wellbeing activities including a serios talk from PC Louise Sloane about personal safety and joint enterprise, as well as a visit from Sakoon through cancer who brought their personal experiences of breast cancer and helpful advice on checking yourself, and supporting friends and family.

Year 11 had revision skills and post 16 sessions throughout the day, thinking about time management, apprenticeship applications and mindfulness, culminating in a 'mock results day' were students were given their predicted grades based on mock exams taken in October and November. There were lost of nice surprises and happy faces, we look forward to supporting each student to perform as well as possible in next year's GCSE exams!

Our eldest students in the Sixth Form did lots of 'looking ahead' at going to university or gap year options, as well as exam preparation advice and the wider world outside of school.

We hope all students enjoyed their day and talked to you about it at home!

Co-Curricular

This week Baylis Productions have been taking headshots of drama students, learning how to create the perfect photo and what is usually asked for by agencies representing actors or models. They also attended the Technical rehearsal of Dynamic to take some photos of the acts and prepare for next week's big show!

Friday 15 December- Christmas Lunch Day

We are looking forward to sharing a Christmas lunch with students and staff next Friday.

Internal Assessments

Assessments enable teachers to gauge the progress of all students. They identify students’ strengths and gaps in knowledge and skills that then inform staff planning, and student foci, to enable all students to make progress. You can help your child to prepare for their assessments by:

  • knowing that their exam weeks are as follows:
  • enabling them to have a quiet space to learn. For some students this may be a local library or the school library (open until 4.30 after school every day)
  • asking your child to re-cap their learning to you.
  • encouraging your child to use flashcards, mindmaps and past papers to support their revision.

The exams may cover anything learned in the current school year and sometimes the year before, where this is relevant to courses.

General topic lists for KS3 can be found on the school website [School Curriculum section, Assessment Criteria file]. KS4 and 5 students should refer to their GCSE or A-Level specification within each subject area of the School Curriculum section of the website.

Students in all years are invited to our newly improved Wellbeing Club, where we will be making Christmas crafts and Sixth Form peer mentors will be on hand for advice on any topic.

Please bring snacks, come alone or bring friends, we are looking forward to seeing you!

It is really important that the pupils at Baylis Court School have participated in The Big Ambition survey and had their say.

We want to ensure that the voices of the children in Slough are fairly represented in the findings so that their views can be shared with the most senior members of the country.
