Coaching and Leadership How do coaching and leadership help our youth develop life skills they can take with them to many different situations?

Interested in coaching and leadership? In this project, we will work with local school on how teams are managed, how coaching techniques are applied and learned, the difficulties of coaching, learning coaching ethics (through PSU), and taking a look at some of our famous leaders and how they might have learned life skills through sports and strong coaches.

Students will work with students at elementary schools and coach them during their PE class, allowing them to see how management would work and how important coaching ethics might be.

Day 1: A Visit to Saint Joseph's, Maine

Today we visited Saint Joseph’s college of Maine. Once at the college, our first activity was talking to the head Men's Lacrosse and Head Women’s basketball coach. We spent a little over an hour meeting with the two of them and asking them questions about being a college coach. Some of the things we learned were how they recruited kids to play for them and what they looked for in recruits. After, we met with the AD for the college and learned more about his job as an AD. Some of the things we learned about from him were how he deals with budgets for the different sports as well as hiring candidates for coaching openings.

We then were able to grab lunch in their dining hall which had great food. After lunch, we met with the strength coach for the college where he ran us through what his workouts consisted of as well as how he made different workouts for the different sports teams. We then ended our day with a tour of the athletic facilities.

Day 2: Ashland Elementary School

Day 3: Holderness Central Elementary School and Plymouth State University

On day three of Project Week. The group went to Holderness Central School to work with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in there physical education classes. The group learned a lot about communication and even taught the 4th graders a new game in class.
