Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 10th May 2024

RECEPTION TRIP TO THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY SERVICES MUSEUM

The Reception children had a fantastic first school trip to the National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield. They enjoyed a workshop to get hands on with history and had the opportunity to handle a mixture of genuine and replica objects. They then explored the museum and were able to try on uniforms and climb on board emergency vehicles. A member of the museum's learning team also gave them first hand information about the amazing exhibits.

PYJAMARAMA

Just a reminder that we will be taking part in Book Trust's Pyjamarama. event. Children are invited to come to school in their pyjamas on Friday 17th May if they wish. Onesies and 'oodies' are allowed. If they choose not to wear their pyjamas then please wear school uniform. They can also bring their favourite book. Pupils are allowed to bring ONE stuffed toy, this must be of an appropriate size. Slippers can be worn in class but outdoor footwear must be worn to and from school, as well as at break and lunch times..

There will be lots happening throughout the day. The Year 6 librarians will be leading an assembly, during which a nominated person from each class can share a book recommendation.

In the library, the librarians will help pupils in their search for a new library book. There will also be mystery books!

There will also be a design an inspirational bookmark competition. Entry forms will be handed out on the day, to be returned by the last day of term. Prize winners will be announced after the break.

Finally, there will be buddy reading sessions, where the older children will team up with those in younger classes to enjoy books together.

ONLINE SAFETY & KINDNESS

Keeping children safe and kind online is a challenge we are facing every day. There are lots of positives to being online for children, from staying in touch with friends to learning about the world. There are some challenges, too, children are spending more time in the digital world than ever before and this online world can be tricky for children to navigate.

We are putting on some workshops in school for parents to give you some help and advice so that you can have more confidence in supporting your children. We will be running one in the evening and one during the daytime, so we do hope that you will be able to join us. Please see dates below:

FOOTBALL STARS

We are very proud of some of our Year 2 pupils who play for Goole Town Tigers U7s. They have had great success in a tournament last weekend. They came out on top out of 24 teams. An extra mention is need for Tommy who won player of the day out of 240 plus players. They also ran a sponsored run to support a local 7 year old girl who recently suffered a medical emergency.. Well done to all involved!

Well done everyone!
Well done Tommy - player of the day!

SPOTLIGHT ON ATTENDANCE 🔦

Please see below for the attendance data for the last two weeks. The overall school attendance has dropped to lower than we like to see. Children miss out on lots of valuable learning as well as fun with their friends when they are not in school.

From the first day of term to the last, the small moments in a school day make a real difference to your child. #AttendanceCounts

The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.

School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.

What an absence means for your child?

At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Miss Curley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.
