Colmore Junior School Spring term week: 20

Highlights of the week

We began our week with a wonderful whole-school assembly dedicated to Chinese New Year. The children learned about the traditions, stories, and significance of the Lunar New Year, celebrating the "Year of the Horse" (or the relevant zodiac) and reflecting on the themes of renewal and family that the festival brings. It was a fantastic way to broaden our cultural horizons and start the week on a positive note.

A Musical Treat for Lower School

Today, our Lower School pupils were treated to a very special surprise: a live bagpipe performance! We would like to extend a huge thank you to one of our Infant School parents who kindly volunteered their time and talent to perform for the children. .

Non-Uniform Day: Thursday 12th February

A reminder that we will be holding a non-uniform day next Thursday, 12th February. We are inviting children to come into school in their own clothes in exchange for a small donation of £1.50 towards our school allotment. This space is a vital resource used by many of our children to learn about nature, sustainability, and the environment. Your contributions will go directly toward maintaining the beds and purchasing new seeds and equipment for the upcoming spring season.

Oracy: Family Discussion Question

Our focus on oracy continues to go from strength to strength. To help your child practice forming and justifying their opinions at home, we invite you to discuss this week's "Big Question":

"If you could create one rule that everyone in the world had to follow, what rule would you make, and why?"

We would love to hear some of the most creative or thoughtful rules the children come up with when they return to school on Monday! Have a wonderful and restful weekend. Mr Gale

Year 6 started their latest design and technology project this week by collating shop bought bread with handmade. They had a great time mixing the ingredients, kneading the dough and then of course, tasting it!

3A used chrome books to create their own branching databases. They thought hard about yes and no questions based on different attributes.

6H carried out some fantastic research on the sinking of the Titanic. They researched the key events that lead to the sinking as well as what life was like onboard for the passengers. Such beautifully presented examples. Well done 6H!

3P worked together to organise a set of photographic instructions on how to make chocolate fridge cake. They had to order them and then write suitable imperative verbs to start their sentences.

3C made their healthy wraps today. There were some weird and wonderful combinations that all looked equally delicious and very healthy!

4E were practising their seven times tables in maths today. There was a whole variety of activities taking place including top trumps with multiplication, times table snakes and ladders and all sorts of other wonderful maths games.
These superstars have been working with Mr. Bignot on his leadership mentoring programme. He was incredibly impressed by their attitude and the progress they made. Well done! 👏

The newsletters are also accessible on the news section of our school website.
