INTERWOVEN DESIGNED BY ALLISON CLARE EBERHARDT

DESIGN PROPOSAL

Eberhardt's project, inspired by the metaphor of weaving, aims to mend the urban void in Sweet Auburn, a historically vibrant Black community affected by the construction of the interstate. This project rekindles the area's artistic soul, evident in its murals and graffiti, by providing structured spaces: artist studios, exhibition areas, and community workshops. The site is designed like a loom, intertwining these elements to create a dynamic, adaptable space. Key features include exhibition paths that guide fluid movement across three levels – a welcoming area, workshop space, and studios. The building's unique, uneven floors enhance spatial interconnectedness, while a central glass courtyard unifies all activities, fostering community collaboration. This architectural tapestry aims to mend the urban void, making artistic expression a permanent fixture in Sweet Auburn's landscape.
