ENJOY THE CHRISTMAS BREAK

We would like to send our very best wishes for Christmas to all of our Parkside families. It has been a long term so in amongst all the excitement, try also to have some much-needed rest! We know it can be a challenging time for many, so however you are spending the holidays we hope that you simply enjoy time together. We look forward to seeing all of the children back on Tuesday 9th January.

WELL DONE & THANK YOU

We would like to say a huge well done to all of the children across the school for performing brilliantly in the various performances and carol concerts in the last two weeks. It is always nerve wracking to stand up in front of a large audience so we are really proud of every child.

We would also like to say a big thank you to Mrs Harrison and Mrs Price for helping out and organising the props and accessories.

And finally, a massive thank you to you all for coming along to support the children.

NURSERY CHRISTMAS ACTVITIES

The children in nursery have taken part in many different Christmas activities this week. They took it in turns to decorate the Christmas tree. They have enjoyed cutting out the characters to create their own nativity scene and explaining to the adults what is happening in their scene. They have also enjoyed lots of Christmas colouring and a pencil control activity where they must use their fine motor skills to follow the line to guide Santa. They have also explored mixing colours to create a brown to paint reindeers with their hands. Well done Nursery!

LOCAL SCHOOLS NATURE GRANT

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Local School Nature Grant, thanks to players of the People's Postcode Lottery. Our pupils will be benefitting from £500 worth of products, including microscopes, cooking equipment, wildflower seeds and an activity book. In addition staff will receive training to help children learn outdoors.

The products were chosen by last year's School Council and their help with the grant application played a hugely important role in it being successful. They selected equipment that they felt would benefit their peers. Here are this year's School Council members with some of the new equipment.

RECYCLE YOUR CHRISTMAS TUBS

Most of indulge in chocolate, sweets and crackers over the festive period, and in the UK we are buying tens of millions of these plastic tubs every year!

Make sure your tubs don’t go to waste and bring your clean, empty plastic confectionery and cracker tubs into school in January and our Year 6 Community Champions will sort them. We will then arrange for them to go to The Vikings as part of Greene King's Tub2Pub scheme. Find out more at https://www.tub2pub.co.uk/tub2pub/

After 11 February, all tubs will be collected and taken to a plastic reprocessing centre where they’re shredded, before being sold onto plastic manufacturers to use in place of virgin plastics. All money raised from the sale of Tub2Pub plastics will be given directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

SPOTLIGHT ON ATTENDANCE 🔦

Please see below for the attendance data in the last two weeks. The overall school attendance is still down on what we would like it to be. Please can we remind all parents and carers that holidays should not be taken in term time. Such absences may incur penalty notices (fines) from the local authority. Please click the link below for detailed information and FAQs.

https://www.eastriding.gov.uk/learning/schools-colleges-and-academies/school-attendance/holidays-during-term-time-and-authorised-absence-from-school/

School Attendance is ‘everyone’s business’.

What an absence means for your child?

At primary school level, where pupils missing up to 14 days of school in key stage two are a quarter less likely to achieve level five or above in reading, writing or maths tests than those with no absence.

If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Miss Curley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.
