Season 4 - Learning with Syeyutsus Speaker Series

The "Learning with Syeyutsus, TRC#57 Speaker Series" is back with a new season beginning in January 2024! Season 4 will cover a number of important topics pertaining to the Truth & Reconciliation Call To Action #57 including: our collective responsibility as humans to our more-than-human relatives; the importance of oral history and its evidentiary use in Canada’s supreme court; understanding the Métis experience within colonization; and personal stories of healing and resilience.

This free learning series is presented by Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools in partnership with UBC Press and Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL). Together, we aim to amplify Indigenous narratives and viewpoints and create meaningful learning opportunities that nurture cross-cultural understandings.

Join us for the Season 4 launch Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 12 p.m. where hereditary chief Umeek, Dr. Richard Atleo will share stories and teaching around the concept of "Tsawalk," meaning "one," that views the nature of existence as an integrated and orderly whole, and thereby recognizes the intrinsic relationship between the physical and spiritual.

The full line up of Season 4 speakers is available here.

If you are unable to make the live webinars work for your schedule, don’t worry we have you covered. All talks are recorded live and uploaded to the website for further learning. UBC Press offers a 20% discount on books using the discount codeTRC57 and VIRL along with other libraries throughout BC have multiple copies of books from all seasons to lend.

We hope you’ll join us for these deep, engaging conversations that will be sure to spark ideas for further exploration and learning afterwards.
