SuperJazzClub The Story so far

SuperJazzClub is a Ghanaian creative collective consisting of artists/producers/filmmakers and DJs: BiQoØbedSeyyohTano JacksonJoey TurksAnsah Live and Gloria Dennis with Anthony Orleans-Lindsay, Oliver Nortt and Abena Adu working behind the scenes.

Formed in 2018 in Accra, the members, who were then friends, came together to express themselves creatively and share ideas as a collective. With different creative interests, they sought to exploit their varying backgrounds to build a unit that was cohesive in thinking, yet diverse in style.

The Story behind the Music

Seyyoh, a vocalist in the collective, grew up writing poems and playing Paramore songs on guitars.

Øbed, a producer and artist, started playing the piano at age 7 and drawing influences from home and international artists such as Pharrell Williams, Toro Y Moi and Dev Hynes.

BiQo, a vocalist, has been described as an old soul by members of the collective as his interest has always been in soul music and 70s highlife.

Tano Jackson, rapper and film director, started out drawing comics and eventually taking an interest in rap music and filmmaking.

Ansah Live, rapper and producer, gravitated towards songwriting after reading E.B White’s ‘Trumpet of the Swan’ at 9.

Joeyturks, multi-instrumentalist, producer and vocalist, started playing the drums at the age of 10 and also now plays the guitar; his influences include: Anderson .Paak, Osibisa and Quincy Jones.

Coming from Accra, Ghana where dance music takes the centre stage of popular music, the collective recognised that in order to experiment with the sound palettes they naturally gravitated to, they had to do it themselves. This DIY mentality has since been channelled into the core of the collective as they do manage all facets of design, film and art by themselves.

Acquiring an apartment studio in 2019 by bootstrapping resources, they set out to build a world that allowed for free expression and experimentation.
