SuperJazzClub is a Ghanaian creative collective consisting of artists/producers/filmmakers and DJs: BiQo, Øbed, Seyyoh, Tano Jackson, Joey Turks, and Ansah Live.
Formed in 2018 in Accra, the members, who were then friends, came together to express themselves creatively and share ideas as a collective. With different creative interests, they sought to exploit their varying backgrounds to build a unit that was cohesive in thinking, yet diverse in style.
The Story behind the Music
Seyyoh, a vocalist in the collective, grew up writing poems and playing Paramore songs on guitars.
Øbed, a producer and artist, started playing the piano at age 7 and drawing influences from home and international artists such as Pharrell Williams, Toro Y Moi and Dev Hynes.
BiQo, a vocalist, has been described as an old soul by members of the collective as his interest has always been in soul music and 70s highlife.
Tano Jackson, rapper and film director, started out drawing comics and eventually taking an interest in rap music and filmmaking.
Ansah Live, rapper and producer, gravitated towards songwriting after reading E.B White’s ‘Trumpet of the Swan’ at 9.
Joeyturks, multi-instrumentalist, producer and vocalist, started playing the drums at the age of 10 and also now plays the guitar; his influences include: Anderson .Paak, Osibisa and Quincy Jones.

SuperJazzClub x SurfGhana x Ministry of Sports, France x FISE Festival
The attention of the people of France was caught when the collective released their single, Bordeaux in 2020 and they haven't looked back since. Year on year, their French fanbase has grown after each drop, this necessitated a physical presence. With support from SurfGhana, Ministry of Sports, France & FISE festival, SuperJazzClub performed for the first time in Montpellier, France.
While in Paris, the collective put together an event to premiere their new song and music video. It was an avenue for the collective to perform a DJ set for the night.
2024 was a year of SuperJazzClub's second EP release: 'MONOCHROME RADIO'. Below is the story of the journey to that EP, and beyond.
"OFF"
The first single from 'MONOCHROME RADIO' was produced by two of the collective’s members Øbed and Ansah Live with additional production from close friends and collaborators: DUKE.
"The song is about two ex-partners who ran into each other again at some point. One party is trying to make the other entertain the idea of them getting back together but probably just for one night. The idea for this track came about after returning home from our European tour last year. Without even listening to the song, the title gives the mood of the song away. This was a very conscious decision to get the listener to go bananas when the beat dropped. It’s perfect for the clubs but also for hanging with friends in the living room."
"911"
‘911’ marks SuperJazzClub’s most cinematic offering to date. Further bringing the song’s naturally film-like charm to the fore is a story musing on karma and the way it can make itself at home in our minds, as well the ways it can physically and spatially manifest in our day to day lives.
Featuring show-stopping vocal contributions from members Ansah Live, BiQo, Tano Jackson and Seyyoh, ‘911’ succeeds in highlighting the special quality that each member brings. Each of their contributions is filled with coarse reflections on failed relationships and existential questions about how one is moving through the world.
"Thematically, it’s a song that talks about karma and how things always come back round. In the hook, BiQo talks about Karma being in the streets looking for him. Using a killer as a metaphor for how severe the effects of his Karma could be. He’s calling 911 as a way of asking for help to elude his karma.”
"MONOCHROME RADIO"
‘MONOCHROME RADIO’ is a sonic world created where anything can exist with no boundaries. Consisting of 5 distinct earworms, the project is SuperJazzClub’s interpretation of what they think radio should sound like in this current time. A musical paragon of free expression, each track mixes and incorporates song structures that are at home with both niche sounds as well as conventionally mainstream tonalities.
Self-described as a “fusion project”, the EP melds the sounds of early 2000s R&B with Ghanaian hiplife and homegrown local Hip-Hop from their native Accra. Also present across the tracks are remnants of dancehall and electronic rhythms.
To mark the release of the EP, SuperJazzClub has unveiled ‘UNO’ featuring British artist-producer, BenjiFlow, as its third single. A synthesis of black diasporic synergies, Benji’s Jamaican heritage seamlessly blends with SuperJazzClub’s Ghanaian flavor to simulate the vibe and ambience of an underground basement party.
Speaking on the collaborative process, SuperJazzClub said:
"It was a beautiful and seamless moment working with Benji. Øbed pulled out a pack of beats at the session and that beat happened to be the last one we played and he instantly connected with it. The energy in the studio was full blast from then on. It’s a song inspired by the things we love to talk about like life, God, relationships and money”.
