First Sunday of Advent: HOPE
Advent is a season of anticipation. We are looking forward to the Christ child being born. This first week of Advent is on Hope. Google informs us that Hope is “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.” Biblical hope is is based on a person, which makes it different from optimism. Optimism is about choosing to see, in any situation, how circumstances could work out for the best. But biblical hope isn’t focused on circumstances. In fact, hopeful people in the Bible often recognize there’s no evidence things will get better, but you choose hope anyway.
Can you imagine the children of Israel in bondage of slavery, but while in slavery they still prayed and sing praises unto God. That is the kind of Hope that we have to have. In dark moments of life we still believe that God is worthy enough to be called upon. In times of struggle and strain, in times of heartache and pain. He’s worthy to be called upon.
We too, like the children of Israel have circumstances that we don’t see any way out. We still have to have Hope that God is the kind of God that is a prayer answering God. Do you have hope? Do you believe that God can and God will? If so, even in dark seasons of your life be thankful and grateful.
