"The lyrics explore avoidance, denial, and the struggle to take responsibility in relationships. It captures the frustration of not understanding someone's anger while recognising the need for self-reflection and change." - Will Jaquet

Big Society

Big Society began at the esteemed Royal Northern College of Music, where friends guitarist Thomas Fripp and bassist Harry Gumery met drummer Will Jaquet.

For the last 18 months, the band have been in their self-built shipping container studio in Ancoats, Manchester, producing their debut album. All tracks have been mixed by Matt Wiggins (Villagers, Nadine Shah, Adele, Lorde, Florence and the Machine, U2, Glass Animals).

Their music has been described as "a gorgeous melting together of sleazy riffs slathered in distortion and something altogether more tender" by DIY Mag. They have been compared to various artists, including MGMT, War On Drugs, King Creosote, Alabama Shakes, and even Harry Styles.

Their exploration of sound has captured the attention of discerning ears, earning them radio support from luminaries like Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 6 Music, Gary Crowley on BBC London, Billy Sloan at BBC Scotland, Dean Jackson at BBC NottinghamBBC Introducing Manchester, and across the BBC, Radio X (including John Kennedy's X-Posure Hot One), XS Manchester, as well as Jim Gellatly and Shell Zenner on Amazing Radio UK, cementing Big Society as a force to be reckoned with in the indie-rock scene.

Big Society’s reach has extended beyond radio waves, being playlisted on New Music Friday UK, The Indie List, Hot New Bands, The Rock List, Shockwave, The Brightside, Japan Rock, and Transistor, with a significant milestone achieved in 2023 – crossing the coveted one-million streams mark on Spotify. It's a testament to their magnetic sound and the loyal following they've cultivated.

They've performed sold-out shows in Manchester and London, as well as at The Great Escape Festival, Live at Leeds, Hit The North, Off The Record, and a prestigious slot on the bill at Bob Dylan and Neil Young's Hyde Park show.

Big Society recently supported Luvcat on her sold-out UK tour which included shows in Southampton, London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, and Liverpool.
