St. George’s Pathfinders Rover Scouts Crew of the Rovering 4 Life Association

Service - Honour - Brotherhood

Welcome to the St. George’s Pathfinders Rover Scouts. We are an adult-only (18yrs+) Rover Scout Crew in the south of the UK. If you love the great outdoors, value traditional scouting principles, and have the spirit and discipline to commit to Rovering, then come and join us!

We follow the original spirit and principles laid down by Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting. Rovering is the final stage in the Scout training — not an end, but a beginning. It is a call to adult responsibility, personal growth, and cheerful service to others.

CREW STRUCTURE AND LEADERSHIP

St. George’s Pathfinders Rover Scouts was founded in June 2025 by three friends—Ricky, Robbie, and Mark—who shared a love for the great outdoors and a deep admiration for the spirit and principles of traditional Rover Scouting and Scouting.

We are an independent Rover Crew of the Rovering 4 Life Association (R4LA) which itself is an independent, international association of adult Rovers, and is affiliated with the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS) as a full member chapter of the International Scouting Fellowship (ISF). Our independent status allows dedication to traditional Scouting methods. The Crew does not directly support youth groups, primarily due to the time constraints of day-to-day living faced by its members. Instead, service — which remains central to Rovering — is expressed in other meaningful ways.

Code of Conduct, Scout Law and Promise

The Scout Law, as originally written by Lord Baden-Powell in 1907, was inspired by his observations of honour codes among soldiers, native tribes, and chivalric knights. He sought to create a code of living for boys and young men that would cultivate integrity, loyalty, and responsibility.

The ten points of the Scout Law were intended to be both a moral compass and a practical guide, encouraging young Scouts to live uprightly and to develop character through daily deeds. These ideals remain central to Rovering.

Scout Law:

  • A Scout’s honour is to be trusted.
  • A Scout is loyal to the King, his country, his officers, and to those under him.
  • A Scout’s duty is to be useful and to help others.
  • A Scout is a friend to all and a brother to every other Scout.
  • A Scout is courteous.
  • A Scout is a friend to animals.
  • A Scout obeys orders.
  • A Scout smiles and whistles under all difficulties.
  • A Scout is thrifty.
  • A Scout is clean in thought, word, and deed.

Scout Promise:

“On my honour, I promise that I will do my best — to do my duty to God and the King, to help other people at all times, to obey the Scout Law.”

The Scout Promise is a solemn commitment made freely and with understanding. When spoken, especially during an Investiture, it binds a Scout by honour — not through fear of punishment, but through personal conscience.

The phrase "On my honour" reflects the spirit of knighthood that inspired Baden-Powell; it is a declaration that one’s word is trustworthy and sacred.

This promise, simple yet profound, forms the cornerstone of all Scouting conduct, and particularly in Rovering, it becomes a guidepost for service and responsibility in adult life.
