Story Telling
I've always wanted to be a filmmaker and director,I have dreamed of it. But I didn't know that my desires came from the ability I have to tell stories. An ability that I inherited from my society. That society in which has long used stories to express intensely life experiences. That child's dream is no longer a dream, but films that search for their own life away from their maker.
Realism, Magic Realism
Relying on experimentation and continuous research in cinematic expressions methods. I made a commitment to dismantle reality to small pieces, then transforming it into a realistic vocabulary in a magical vessel, to tell the stories I want to tell. Realism, Magic realism, is not just cinematic methods. It is a philosophy that bears upon itself to ask the necessary questions about man, the civilisation, and our relationship to life. Committing to that, shapes my style and concept of life that I try to reflect in my artwork.

HOWLING
Johan Leysen | Performance Daniel Demoustier | Cinematography Ioana Mandrescu | Sound recording, sound design Erik Parys | Film edit, colour grading Pablo Diartinez | Photography edit, graphic design Eyas Almokdad | Concept, Direction
A video installation based on a letter written by Vsevolod Meyerhold to Vyacheslav Molotov the chairman of the Council of People's Commissars. The letter was found in the archives of the Soviet secret police after the fall of the Soviet Union 1991. Meyerhold wrote the letter after his arrest and torture, and before his execution in 2 February 1940. What is impressive about the letter that he describes his torture method in a poetic way, with full awareness of his feelings and the symbolic images that represent his pain. I noticed that the letter did not submit any request for clemency from the Soviet authority. He does not mention the accusations levelled against him by the security services, nor does he mention any self-defense, nor does he mention his role in the Soviet theatrical life and his role in the development of the Soviet theater during the four decades of his artistic practise. The letter presents the brutality that his body was subjected to, turning that description into a blatant protest in the face of the brutality that violates the human body and soul.
THE FINAL SCENE
Synopsis: The film brings us back to the first year of the Syrian revolution (2011) through the story of the activist Orwa AlMokdad, who documented the events of the first year of the Syrian revolution. After leaving Syria to Lebanon, Orwa presented all the material he recorded to his brother Eyas – a filmmaker based in Belgium – to complete the film he was working on to show the peaceful face of the Syrian revolution. Eyas began searching the material only to discover another face to his brother and his comrades who risked their lives to achieve the political change in Syria. Defeat and loss are part of the story of the peaceful uprising against which the world was united, where the Syrian regime managed to distort it and turn that peaceful face into a violent and bloody one. The film tries to revive the memory of the world, which has become addicted of bloody images from Syria. Through the story of 4 brothers separated by distance and war that posed un-crossable borders, the film tries to find a suitable final scene for a 10 years of fear, and frustration.
MOEDER, DOCHTER, (Mother - Daughter)
Synopsis: Lilly, a 40-year old Belgian politician who fights against immigration, returns to the family house to take care of her elderly mother Hanna who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. During her stay, she discovers a hidden side of her mother’s early history. her mother’s early history.
THE HANGAR
Synopsis: Lost justice, revenge - two Syrian refugees looking for a new beginning, discover that they are doomed by their past.
