Conrad Bi-Weekly Memo March 14, 2025

Principal's Message

Brian McFarland, Teacher of the Year!

Please join me in “Congratulating” Brian McFarland for being selected as Conrad Schools of Science Teacher of the Year!

With 30 years of dedication to education, Brian McFarland has been an exceptional educator, mentor, and leader at Conrad Schools of Science. His impact extends beyond the classroom, shaping not only the minds of his students but also the culture of our school community.

Brian’s expertise spans a wide range of courses, including Physics, AP Research, Earth and Space Science, Plant Science, Environmental Science, and AP Environmental Science. His deep commitment to both his content and his students is evident in everything he does. Whether guiding students through complex scientific concepts or fostering curiosity and critical thinking- he embodies excellence in teaching.

Beyond the classroom, Brian’s dedication to student engagement is unmatched. He is a tireless supporter of our school community, leading initiatives such as the Environmental Club, the World Traveler’s Club, and the Senior Trip to Disney, while most recently reviving our Odyssey of the Mind Club, which is now heading to states! Despite juggling multiple content preps—often four in a single year—he continues to foster a positive learning environment for all.

Brian’s unwavering commitment, passion for education, and dedication to Conrad make him an inspiration to both students and colleagues.

We are incredibly grateful for all he does and proud to recognize him as Conrad’s 2025 Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations, Brian, on this well-deserved honor!

Mission- Conrad Schools of Science… teaching life science and life lessons in a kind and inclusive environment, inspiring students and improving the world.

Vision- Conrad Schools of Science will empower students to achieve their goals and impact the community.

EntreX Students Shine

Gabe Welsh, Madelyn Sims, and Kylie Keith represented Conrad.

Three Seniors from the UD EntreX class at Conrad went to the University of Delaware on Thursday, March 6th, to compete in the Delaware Venture Showcase. 34 teams from Delaware and surrounding states, including as far as Rhode Island, were in attendance to pitch a solution to a problem they had identified and have been working on this year. Gabe Welsh, Madelyn Sims, and Kylie Keith represented Conrad well with their pitch and received positive feedback from the judges with their idea HydroSavor, a filtered water bottle that could help support people in need of clean water around the world.

The night began with an introduction from Principal Todd-Dixon. NHS volunteers helped guide new parents and students through the building.
Students had the opportunity to experience our pathways first-hand.

Congratulations to our wrestlers!

Vanessa Rodriguez-Reyes, Anggiel Gonzalez and Yoali Avila-Amador pose with their medals with Coach Brainard.

Junior Anggiel Gonzalez, who became Conrad's first individual state champion last season, defended her title and is now a two-time state champion. Anggie dominated her bracket on the way to the finals and then won impressively over a tough opponent to secure the crown. Junior Vanessa Rodriguez-Reyes made it to the finals, placing 2nd for the tournament, for the second straight year. Wrestling up a weight class, Vanessa made it back to the finals, coming up just a match short of the crown. Sophomore Yoali Avila-Amador took home 3rd place in the state at a very tough 107 weight class, pinning her opponent in the 3rd place match to get on the podium. We also had two 8th grade girls, Abby Rist and Rhyan McIntosh, who wrestled in the HS division and competed very well, each coming up just one match shy of placing in the top 4.

The boys wrestling team celebrates Tommy Arm's 100th win!

Sophomore Tommy Arms earned his 100th win! The team also had 4 athletes qualify for the state tournament: Tony Colon, Tommy Arms, Gerald Mubaira, and John Bittman. Congratulations!
