Dow High Art Students Add Artistic Energy to Central Auditorium

As part of a multi-year project, Art students from Dow High School, under the direction of Teacher Mark Francisco, have begun to install their artwork at Central Auditorium. The first installation took place on February 21. Each year, additional artwork will be added to showcase students' artistic talents and to beautify Central Auditorium by covering banks of lockers that are no longer needed at the facility. This initiative aims to infuse the district's cultural hub with the vibrant energy of student-led artwork.

MPS Pre-Festival Choral Concert

The choirs from Northeast, Jefferson, Midland High, and Dow High welcomed Dr. Letícia Grützman, director of choirs at Saginaw Valley University, to our pre-festival concert. Dr. Grützman offered the choirs wonderful insights and techniques to help as they continue to prepare for the MSVMA Choral Festival. Mr Gardner-Northrup, Mr. Farison, and Student Teacher Ms. Bearden appreciate Dr. Grützman's help and the support of the choir parents as we prepare to represent Midland Public Schools next month!

Celebrating Black History Month

Dow High's Black Student Alliance Visits Culture Club at Adams Elementary

The Adams 5th Grade Culture Club had a great time learning about Black History Month from T'emi Oshin of Dow High's Black Student Alliance this past Sunday. The Black Student Alliance prepared a great and interactive presentation for the students, including Black History Jeopardy, information on famous Black Americans with reinforcement of learning through charades and individual posters, and so much more! It was impactful to have the young students of Midland Public Schools learn from a dynamic high school student leader who empowered them to stand up for others and be inclusive as they move into middle school.

Midland High School Varsity Leadership Class Creates Picture Timeline

To celebrate Black History Month, members of the Midland High School Varsity Leadership Class, under the guidance of Avery Bilow, Maisy Matthews, Mary Doan, and Leighna Eastman, created a picture timeline showing important events and figures in Black history that are often overlooked. The timeline has been displayed on wires in Eyeball Alley so that all students can learn more about these important events and impactful leaders.

Dow High Safe Driving Festival

Dow High leadership is putting on a safe driving festival. The goal is to educate elementary school students on the importance of seatbelt safety while creating a fun atmosphere. This festival will have games, educational opportunities, pizza, and prizes! We would like to invite all the elementary school-aged students (parents and guardians welcome to stay) in our district to attend our event on March 14th from 6 until 7:30 pm in our green (auxiliary) gym at Dow High School. This event is completely free in hopes to have more attendees. We hope to see you there!
