PSHE/RSE Curriculum "a bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because their trust is not on the branch, but on its own wings. Always belieive in yourself."

PSHE/RSE Leader - Mrs V Greedy

Our PSHE/RSE curriculum has been designed with 6 key drivers that are revisited and developed over time from EYFS through to Year 6.

Me and My Relationships, Valuing Difference, Keeping Safe, Rights and Respect, Being my best and Growing and changing.

Our aim is that pupils know more, understand more and remember more.

In line with the National Curriculum we want our pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding to be able to embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life. Pupils need knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy.

These subjects can support young people to develop resilience, to know how and when to ask for help, and to know where to access support.

Through our curriculum we would like all children to have:

The ability to form respectful relationships with others, deal with conflict and bullying and the importance of challenging stereotypes.

The ability to look after mental and physical health of themselves. This includes healthy eating, relaxation techniques, sun safety, immunisation facts and the benefits of sleep.

The ability to administer first aid in a variety of situations and about safety around medicines, online and road safety and the changes that occur during puberty.

The ability to understand human rights and the rights of the child, democracy, diversity and community and protecting the environment.

The ability to make decisions when it comes to spending, budgeting and saving money and exploring different career choices.

PSHE/RSE Implementation

Our intention is that when children leave St Botolph's Academy, they will do so with the understanding, knowledge and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s diverse society. We want our children to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves and realise that anything is possible if they put their mind to it. In an ever–changing world, it is important that they are aware, to an appropriate level, of different factors which will affect their world and that they learn how to deal with these so that they have good mental health and well-being.

As an Academy, we will be using SCARF, which stands for Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship. We not only use the 6 different areas throughout each year group to ensure all elements of the PSHE/RSE curriculum are revisited constantly, we have also incorporated elements of e-safety into each year group to give our pupils the opportunity to understand that what we say and feel in real life is the same as in the digital world. We have regular Collective worships that support or PSHE themes as well as our Academy values of Friendship, trust, compassion, perseverance, respect and courage.
