During this project, I learned several things, including how to use layer masks, gradients, and other tools like the lasso tool to improve the quality of my project. I created a paradise postcard about the tropical island of Japan known as Okinawa. My goal was to create a vibrant, fun-looking postcard that brought the feeling of being there to the person viewing it. I felt okay about it, as a starting project it was good. I hoped this piece would bring a tropical, fun feeling to whoever viewed it!
I learned a lot from this project. I used opacity more and learned how to reflect the bright color of fire on the bottoms of the bird's wings to make it a more realistic piece. I created a barren landscape that included a man standing looking towards our dry and polluted world, with an seeming endless drought that caused trees to ignite and humans to stop caring, causing more power plant production. My goal was to basically create what I did create, but to display upon others a theme that pushed people to work for a better future for our Earth.
This project I used a lot of layering which is also what I gained from this project. I learned how to layer by selecting either the black or white when turning something into a black and white image and filled it with colors. Hard to explain, but easy to do once you get into a flow of doing it over and over and over again. My goal was for this piece to feel like a war battle scene with the commander or main character watching over the battlefield as a main piece. I had originally planned to put soldiers on horseback onto the ground, but this would blend into the ground because they all had the same color scheme. At the end, I messed up the text placement but I hope my viewers got the feeling of a lengthy battle from this piece.
This project was one of my favorites because I love the Harry Potter series, but one of my most poorly executed pieces. I learned a lot about how to cut out media with layer masks to put leather texture over the image which made it look a LOT better than it previously was. Looking back, I would put more detail and depth into this, but I spent a lot of time working on making each part of the leather cut out that I lacked time for everything else. I hope my viewers got the game of quidditch brought to them, which is such an important step of Harry’s career that starts in the first movie as the youngest seeker ever.
