PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Historic Landmark District of Savannah reveals a system of urban fragments that define, separate, and connect spatial programs. Extrapolating on the diverse parcel size and distribution of Savannah’s historic urban grid as an exemplary spatial fragment, the Oglethorpe Urban Research Center (OURC) organizes within an expanding and contracting grid system to accommodate a program dedicated to the documentation and observation of Savannah’s natural and cultural environment over time. Each parcel, punctuated by crucifix columns at grid intersections that expand and contract as partition or enclosure as necessary, is predisposed to its own programmatic distinction. The architectural promenade overrides parcel boundaries, partially blurring, but simultaneously subjecting the occupant to distinction while passing through.
