The Pocket Press Term 1 | Week 10 | 2025

Inspiring - Inclusive - Empowered

We acknowledge the Minjungbal people, of the Bundjalung Nation, who are the original custodians of the land on which the school proudly stands. We raise our hands to the sky that covers the Aboriginal land. We touch the ground in the care of the Aboriginal land. We place our hands on our hearts in love of the Aboriginal land.

From the Principal:

Dance

Salma and Skye are off to the North Coast Dance Ensemble. We can't wait to hear all about it!

North Coast Swimming Championships

Skye and Mia went off to Kempsey last week to compete in the North Coast Swimming Championships. Mia swam a PB and came 5th! That's a pretty good result seeing as the region runs from the QLD border to Port Macquarie.

And Skye is heading off to the State Swimming Championships! What a super star!

Cross Country

Our Cross Country has been postponed due to the threat of more rain! The event will be held Thursday 10 April. If your child has a planned absence for this new date and would like to be considered for the Headland Carnival, see Will Glasson to discuss (*this does not include children who are unwell or absent on that day, only if it is a pre-planned trip etc for this new date.)

A shout out to Sigge for making the track look so incredible over the past few weeks. And a special mention to Jess Singh who owns the land we use. If you drop into the Barbers at Ocean Shores, you'll meet Jess, make sure you let him know your kids go to The Pocket School and say thanks for letting us use his field.

PSSA Sports

Tennis

Congratulations to Lilly D, Lilly F, Finn and Zephyr for their impressive turn out against Mullumbimby Public School today. From all reports they had a great hit out.

Basketball

The Pocket will play Ocean Shores Public on Thursday, 8 May. We will be selecting our team on Thursday this week!

Soccer

Both the boys and girls team will play Mullumbimby on Monday 19 April. Trials will start early next week with the final selections happening by the end of Week 1 Term 2.

Soccer Gala Day

We had a ball heading to Pottsville last week for the soccer gala day. Our kids were amazing, as usual. Great sports, kind and caring. Jade D took some amazing photos that we will send out in a separate School Bytes post.

Social Futures - Blind Cricket

We were lucky enough to have Social Futures come into school today to teach our students in Year 3- 6 all about blind cricket! We had a great time learning this new sport. Thanks to Nikki Perin for organising.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Our Parent Teacher Interviews finish up this week. If you missed your interview last Friday due to the school closure, your child's class teacher will be in contact to rebook.

Year 2 Interview times will be live in school bytes on Monday next week.

Bunnings

Bunnings were out today to work with our 3 / 4, 4/5 and 6 classes. They bought a pallet of soil, mulch and seedlings. Our students weeded, dug, turned, shovelled, planted and spread for most of the morning sessions. The beds look incredible. Thanks Holly Stanton for organising this for our kids.

Easter Hat Parade and Mufti Day

Our Easter Hat Parade will be held on our last day of school, Friday 11 April. All parents are welcome to attend. The parade will start at 9:15am in the COLA. We look forward to seeing the wonderful Easter hat creations. It is also the last day of term which means that it is a mufti (non-school clothes) day.

ANZAC Day

Just a reminder that our school will be at the Dawn Service in Brunswick Heads on Friday 25 April. We traditionally meet at the service station near the Cenotaph from 4:45am. Keep an eye on School Bytes the week before for further details. We will be leading the two songs again this year, as we did last year.

Term 2 Start Date

Students first day for Term 2 is Wednesday 30 April. Staff return on the Monday and have two development days. One day is system led and involves High Performance and Gifted Education. The other is school / staff led.
