Texas Delegates Compete in Italy!
World Winter Games 2025
Our SOTX representatives traveled to Turin, Italy with Special Olympics USA to compete in the Traditional Floorball event, coming in an incredible fourth place!

Athlete Spotlight!
Pictured above, Kenny Hollingsworth and Timothy Wilson from Wylie Sachse Murphy (blue) along with David Nelson and Dustin Nelson from Ellis County (red) competed in the Team Bowling competition to bring home the gold medal at the Special Olympics North America Unified Bowling Tournament held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana February 25-17, 2025!
Joey Songco from San Antonio's SAFIRE, pictured above with Coach Gene Bell. Joey won three gold medals in powerlifting with an amazing deadlift of 385 pounds! Joey has been competing in powerlifting for 10 years.

Charity Basketball Game!
Area 12
Area 12 LETR is hosting the 2nd annual Guns & Hoses Basketball game next weekend on March 29th at University High School in Waco.
This is a Unified event where Waco PD and Waco FD will face off in a head-to-head basketball game alongside many of our athletes.
As always it is Free to attend for any and all who are interested! Donate to which team you think is going to take home the Trophy this year - all funds raised benefit the local athletes!
There will be merchandise available for purchase as well as a concession stand. Tip off is at 5:00 pm and we will have a halftime show performed by the Waco Without Limitation Cheer Program!!

The court was sandwiched between two sets of stadium chair columns with the typical glossy sheen, slowly filling as students filed in, dressed in various school colors. There were Galveston ISD’s Tornados in purple jerseys with white undershirts, The Arc in grey, the Fort Bend Falcons in red with a printed falcon spreading its accordion wings, and more. In the back, beside the wound chairs, stood a row of referees in black and white vertically striped shirts, hand over their hearts as the national anthem played. With its dying notes, a deafening cheer went up in the crowd—and a volleyball ghosted up then down on the far side of the gym—as a paper mache torch was passed around, its ragtag flame flickering in the eye of the beholder.
This was the opening ceremony for the Special Olympics Basketball Competition that took place Saturday, Mar. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for participants with disabilities aged 8 and up. The two main subcategories consisted of skills practice—involving shooting, dribbling and passing—and 5X5 team competitions.
“[Special Olympics] gives them that opportunity to have extracurricular activities,” Volunteer Yvette Vasquez said. “[There’s] practice after school, sometimes on weekends, [and they] have that opportunity to come together to compete. Some teams will go from here to the state games...”
