Taylor, Difato Set Records as Tritons Spilt Twinbill at Florida Tech
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team dropped the opener 4-1 before rallying to take the finale 12-1 in six innings at Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon. In the finale, Lex Difato set the single-season record for runs, while Hannah Taylor set the single-season mark for hits. The win also marked the most SSC wins in program history.
The opener was a pitcher's duel through four innings with a combined two hits by both teams before the Panthers broke through in the fifth with a two-run double and two-run home run for a 4-0 favor. Gracie Ciccarello broke the Panthers' no-hit bid with a single to lead off the sixth. Mia Hernandez got the Tritons on the board in the seventh with an RBI single, but EC was unable to make up the difference.
The Tritons broke through early in the finale with four runs in the second frame on a pair of two-run singles from Molly Scott and Hannah Taylor. The Panthers got a run back in the bottom of the frame. However, Eckerd continued to tack on runs with one in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the sixth. Taylor had two RBIs in the fourth and one in the sixth, while Ella Coiner, Addisan Langston, and Ashley Cain also added RBIs in the sixth for the run-rule win.
