Learning About Our Earth

Nursery, summer term, week 8

Our World Explorers have been busy this week, continuing to think about what Planet Earth looks like and asking lots of questions about the world we live in.

The children enjoyed listening to the story Town Mouse and Country Mouse. It encouraged lots of discussion about the differences between cities and the countryside.

Looking more closely at the pictures in the story, the children took turns sharing whether they preferred the city or the countryside.

As we thought more about the difference between water and land, we played a game of 'Cross the River' in phonics and even created our own river outside using the hosepipe!

The children helped the animals cross the river by listening carefully to the sounds in each word. The 'sh-ee-p' wanted to go first, followed by lots of other animals!

The children love playing outside at this time of year. In our little spot of the world, our school, we are lucky to have beautiful green spaces full of wildflowers. Using nature in our maths learning, the children challenged themselves to find five flowers that were the same.

Back in class, the children began creating artwork for display. They used green and blue to represent land and water and enjoyed exploring balloon painting.

It’s been another fun-filled week of learning and playing together.
