Flags at Half-Staff to Honor the Victims in the Tragedy in Lewiston, Maine

As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on October 25, 2023, in Lewiston, Maine, President Biden ordered U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff until sunset, October 30th.

This is a reminder that the Age-Friendly Community Survey opened in October and will remain so through December. We encourage all residents ages 45 and older to fill it out online at brisbaneca.org/aarp, or at an upcoming in-person Library or City event!

Starting today, there is also a small supply of AARP print brochures at the Senior Sunrise Room, including:

  • Creating Parks and Public Spaces for People of All Ages
  • Disaster Resilience Tool Kit
  • The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and Older Adults
  • Making Room: Housing for a Changing America
  • Where We Live: Communities for All Ages

Electronic versions, along with other great resources, are available at via the AARP Livable Communities Library.

It was dress-up day at the Sunrise Room today, where our older adults had a great time coming to play Bingo, in costume. They needed to don those before their next regularly-scheduled gathering, which is the Senior Lunch, held every Wednesday at the Community Center (250 Visitacion Ave., Brisbane).

It's Time to Get Ready for Winter Cleanup, Nov. 4 & 5

The weather's been changing, and this cold front is expected to last until Saturday morning. The changing weather is a reminder that this year's Winter Cleanup is fast-approaching on the weekend of November 4 & 5. If you're new to town, this is when SSF Scavenger places green bins (for yard waste ONLY) throughout Central Brisbane so that you're afforded a closeby location for placing all your leaves and trimmings. Please note: a Tree Removal Permit is required for removal or severe trimming. If you have any questions, please contact the Community Building Department BEFORE doing any tree trimming at (415) 508-2120 or contact them via their webform, brisbaneca.org/email-cdd.

See a larger map of where the dumpsters will be placed.

Congressman Mullin's Day in the District

Earlier today, Congressman Mullin held his Day in the District in Brisbane, specifically at Madhouse Coffee, where he provided an overview of his first 10 months in office. Thank you for those that came, who brought forward issues regarding everything from additional funding for storm drain infrastructure and cleaning, transportation, affordable housing, and relatedly, the jobs-housing imbalance. We look forward to Congressman Mullin returning before too long for another 'Coffee with Kevin' and will be sure to notify the community when the next one's been scheduled.

Former Mayor W. Clarke Conway opened the time when Congressman Mullin took questions from the audience.
Mayor Davis depicted for Congressman Mullin the struggle that residents who grew up in Brisbane, who perhaps work at Madhouse, face in order to continue being able to afford living here. She also stated how she's eager to work together with the Congressman to explore creative ways to fund affordable housing, so that cities bear less of that burden.
Madhouse Coffee owner and operator Danette Davis is thanked by Congressman Mullin for hosting this great event for residents this morning.

101 Corridor Connect Multimodal Strategy Online Survey and Virtual Community Meeting, 11/7

If you travel along the Highway 101 Corridor within one mile of Highway 101 in the cities of Brisbane, South San Francisco, San Bruno and Millbrae, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) would like your feedback! The TA wants to hear about your experience traveling along the 101 corridor and learn what improvements are most important to you. Your input will help develop the 101 Corridor Connect North County Multimodal Strategy to improve and encourage the use of different types of transportation. TA staff will use community feedback to develop priorities for the types of projects that should be included in the strategy. There are more projects than funds available, and your input will help the TA make sure funding is going where it is needed most.

Take the brief survey here. The survey is open until November 17.

You can also share your thoughts at a virtual community meeting:
