Star Board Term Two Week Six

Principal's Message

Kia Ora Koutou

There is sometimes an inclination to say when we are unwell “I’m ok enough to go to school/ work”, or “you look ok to me so get ready for school/work” but in reality if you are not feeling great it is best to stay home and give your mind and body time to feel better so that when you are back in the learning and working saddle the ride ahead is much more focussed. So, let me thank you for keeping children home when they are unwell.

Protect against measles

Just a reminder to be vigilant in the face of an increased risk of measles around the motu. The experts tell us that the best protection against measles is two doses of the MMR vaccine.

Informed decisions

What is a Census? He aha te tatauranga? The census is a nationwide survey that provides an official count of people and dwellings in Aotearoa New Zealand. It gives a snapshot of life, people, and communities every year.

The census (officially called the Census of Population and Dwellings) provides an understanding of all the people in Aotearoa New Zealand and where they are living. It is a complete picture of life in our cities, towns, rural areas, and outer islands. By law, everyone must take part in the census.

Census data is used by lots of different groups to help meet our needs as citizens and communities. To best represent who we are, our communities, and groups in the population we are part of, it is important that all people feel comfortable to fill in the census.

Census NZ are reviewing the way they conduct the 2028 census. They are looking for community feedback and there are three links included below which consider the story so far and info on why they are modernising it, multi-language links for users to access the information in their preferred language, and the actual online submission form.

There is no obligation to complete this but the better the way a Census is conducted the better served we are to work out the demographics and needs of our communities.

Thespians Unite

The Trinity stage worlds are abuzz with Seussical rehearsals, Mama Mia rehearsals, Big Sing performances and all in the name of cultural growth.

There is a great deal of talent in our schools so take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy being an audience at any or all the events.

House Chapel- Sheppard

You will all recall that when I met you at Enrolment interviews, I spoke about what is important about us - our Special Character. That Character is Anglican and that means there will acknowledgments of that in our school day and school year. One such acknowledgement is the Sunday House chapel and this Sunday June 9 is for Sheppard. Students are expected there and Families are wanted there. See you for a 6:30pm start.

Have a safe weekend

Boarding Note

Sometimes it is easy to forget how the simple things can bring happiness. Often it is in the form of food when it comes to our boarders!

When we were short staffed earlier in the term I had the pleasure of staying overnight in Hampton House and it was lovely to see the girls enjoying an ice cream in a cone.

One boarder asked on her way into the common room, “what do we have to do for our ice cream?.” My reply was, “just stay and chat while you are eating it!”

The great thing was there was no phones in sight.

While this group of Year 13’s parked up on the couch, the Year 12’s spent the time looking at the old Year 13 boarding photos behind them.

Happy weekend everyone.

Kotahitanga

Over the past few weeks during Kotahitanga students participated in various clubs that were on offer, including F45, Kapa Haka, Netball, Paper Fabrications, Poi E, Rugby, Simple Cake Decorating, Squash, Strike 10, Sushi and Dumplings, Walking Group, Zumba and Touch Rugby.

A massive thank you to staff and outside providers that took these groups.

From the Proprietor: catering

We would like to thank all the Parents/caregivers, students and staff for participating in the survey sent out to you from the school to review our current catering contract. Your feedback provided us with valuable information to consider as we engage in a new tender process. As a result of the outcome, TSTB (Trinity Schools Trust Board) would appreciate it if you could participate in the next survey as we focus on the areas you highlighted as key areas of importance.

Detours in Carterton

There are some upcoming detours in Carterton that will affect bus routes that service schools.

Carterton: High St N Stop 1937 closed and southbound buses detour during roadworks from 9pm Monday 3 June for approximately five weeks.

  • Northbound (AM) trips will run as normal, however may arrive at school slightly delayed due to speed restrictions past the work-site in Carterton
  • Southbound (PM) trips 309, 313, and 315 will depart as normal, and will follow the detour around Carterton
  • Any passengers transferring between services (as happens now), will now transfer at stop 1935 – Carterton – High Street South (opposite 100).
  • Route 366 will follow the detour shown in the map below and is also available on our website.

Here is the link to our website which has all the information your students will need - Metlink - Public Transport.

This will cause some delays in travel times.
